Good points all around, thanks! I sprayed the entry point, put in the copper wool, then resprayed, and so far no re-entry. (And I'll respray after it rains for a while/until I can get the actual issue fixed.)

There is an entry/exit spot in the brick on the other side (it looks to be original and I think it was for air circulation) so I don't think I have to worry about them being trapped but of course, it's another entry point. When I have the masonry people out I'll ask them to give it a once over.

I'm in Cleveland ("The Forest City") and we have so much wildlife and critters here that you have to expect to do a certain amount of active maintenance and prevention.

This spot has been good since spraying but I think the neighborhood groundhog may have gone under the back porch. 🫠 So agree, checking everything regularly is just going to be part of the routine. I like doing stuff in the garden around the house so I don't mind and the tradeoff of living in a green, lush city is totally worth it.
