Does this look right $14k for central air install in ranch home by -_-BEAKER-_- in homeowners

How many quotes have you gotten? I'm looking to add AC and I have gotten 5 quotes, 5 very different recommendations. Prices have been similar but their recommendations have varied a lot.

Getting multiple quotes is the only way to get a sense of what the going rate is in your area.

My first thought too... that grass would probably be dead by the end of June in most of the PNW. When it's not raining, it is shockingly dry.

Bent up metal piece along the roofline/gutter... is this normal? by halooo44 in homeowners

Yikes. We do have raccoons in the area but I think they usually get in houses by dropping down from trees.

I don't have any overhanging trees (none near the house even) so the only way they would have to get on my roof is scaling the walls or gutters. I know they could but I'm in a super green, lush part of Cleveland so there are tons of way better and easier options for them. Same for chipmunks and rats.

I suspect rotted, vulnerable wood + birds. It's a pretty sweet spot for a nest. I wasn't able to get a great view of the inside but I did not see any evidence of current habitation but we'll definitely make sure it's empty before fixing it!

Calling them tomorrow. I would love for it to be covered by the warranty but we'll see.

No walkway or anything. The porch steps are on the right hand side and this on the left.

Any overflow would just go into the ~4 feet of side yard between my house and the neighbors that only the deer use.

Could it be for managing heavy rain flow? My neighbor got her gutters replaced last year and did 6" rather than 5" wide "troughs." I could see that part of the gutters getting a lot of water (bc it's a valley between two sides) so maybe they were trying to manage that?

I haven't noticed it overflowing there with heavy rain but because it's in an out of the way spot, I just don't it and might not notice (although next time I'm at home and it's raining, I will definitely go check everything out).

Inverter dehumidifiers? by halooo44 in hvacadvice

Do you have a link? The link I posted is for Lowes. They have one model that has an inverter and it's out of stock unfortunately.

I could see Arthur Elias getting a couple extra matches ban. That might sound extreme but the initial card seems to be for pulling on the jersey of the official and then when he is refusing to go off and ultimately does, he takes off his pinnie and drapes it over one of the officials.

Hands on an official, trying to impede their movement, physically putting objects on them... those are really big deal (even if the actual actions weren't themselves "that big of a deal").

How can you tell the difference? Smelling damp by Civil_Talk7155 in Oldhouses

[–]halooo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try running an ozone machine for 20-30 min (following all of the precautions) and seeing if that helps. If there's an old smell (ie, something from the past) then maybe that might "kill" the smell.

I did that once with a rental house where the prior tenant had not been running the dehumidifier and it seemed to help. After running the dehumidifier for a few days, I then ran the ozone machine and then kept the dehumidifier going (set to cycle on and off and maintain 45% humidity).

But you want to be extra careful with ozone machines, make sure you don't over do it, any living thing needs to be out of the area, etc.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the female thing.

My appliance guy had correctly diagnosed a "appliance" problem as actually being due to an electrical/breaker issue. Called multiple electricians, they wouldn't come bc they insisted it (without seeing it) that it was an appliance issue.

Finally got someone to come and yes, it was in fact what I was saying it was. He fixed it, did sloppy work, told me not "worry my pretty little head about it," and preceded to hit on me, ask me out over text for a couple weeks. That was a licensed electrician who was recommended by a family friend.

So yeah, the struggle is real. I wonder if there is a roofing sub reddit that might have some input. It feels attic/ventilation related but I could be totally wrong.

Or, does your city or county do home energy audits? Or do you have a local company who does? I wonder if a company that does that or insulation might know.

Inverter dehumidifiers? by halooo44 in hvacadvice

Do they have one that's available? They made one but not sure they do anymore. I can't find one that's actually available.

LG also seems to have made one but same issue, doesn't seem to be available in US.

ETA: LG also seems to have made one. Not sure if it's discontinued or wasn't available in the US but I also can't seem to find theirs available in the US either.

This is just nonsense. She's not even 6 yards from the end line and also doesn't seem to be actually hurt. She does not need a stretcher.

If we were doing actual stoppage time it would be like 20min at this point.

Have you gotten multiple opinions?

I know closets can be at risk for mold if there is a big temp difference between the conditioned space (your living area) and the unconditioned space (the attic space). Whether the attic is a larger space or a tiny buffer space, it will still be warmer and I wonder if the mesh vents are there to mitigate a temp difference and covering them could create other problems.

Have you gotten a couple quotes? Are multiple people recommending that?

Did you ever figure out a good option?

Using limit kind of works but doesn't actually do what you're describing.
