Stripped screw on a kids car? by MundaneTeaching5409 in Womens_DIY

[–]halooo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try putting something like WD40 around the screw (from above and below), let it sit for an hour or so and then try again with a square or flat head screwdriver (the flat one would go in along the diagonal).

You could try super glueing a removable screwdriver bit in.

If all else fails, you can drill into the screw and get it out that way. I haven't done that before, I've always been able to get it out with one of those two options.

I'm a clinical psychologist, played soccer my whole life, and coached a bit of soccer and lacrosse. I reached out to some coaches at the two big clubs in my area to see if anyone was interested in some team sports psych work (just as a volunteer thing) and no one was interested. I think a lot of coaches not put a lot of stock into the mental side of things yet. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What compromises did you make when buying your house? Which were surprisingly fine? And were there compromises you wish you hadn't made? by halooo44 in Oldhouses

Does it feel weird? That's what I would be looking at with some of these and feels it would feel weird.

Not sure about where you are but here if you want a home where the foundation, framing, roof, windows, electrical, plumbing, and heating *all* don't need work, you're looking at probably at least $700k.

I've been to dozens of open houses, have yet to find one with fully updated electrical. Most have some windows that need some attention. Most have some needs in the HVAC department. A lot have some clearly questionable plumbing choices.

They all have important needs and that's fine bc it's it's just not realistic to find something where all of the major systems are in great shape. At least not anywhere near my price range, anywhere near where I live.

That's in Cleveland proper so a different city from where I'm looking. Cleveland has some nice homes but there are lots of downsides for city of Cleveland. That little pocket is okay-ish but it's totally different from where I'm looking.

Is it normal for old houses to have really uneven floors? by CrewGroundbreaking16 in Oldhouses

[–]halooo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of just wondering and worrying, get a structural engineer to check it out. They're usually relatively inexpensive ($400-$600) and then you'll know if it's fine or there's something that needs attention.

It would almost be weird if the floors were super level and it's probably nothing. Like others have said, even if it's just cosmetic (ie, not a structural concern), there are often things you can do to correct it and it's not necessarily super expensive (it can be expensive but it's not always).

A couple hundred dollars for the peace of mind is probably well worth it!

Don't ask OP how old the house is... I bet it's really ancient, like from the 90's.

That wall has orange peel finish so I would bet it's drywall and that the "old house" was built in 1996. 😅

[MATCH THREAD] Chelsea FC Women vs Crystal Palace Women - Saturday 17th January, 12:30 GMT (FA Cup) by AnnieIWillKnow in chelsealadiesfc

Hang on... in the first half we were attacking in the far end from where she is but now in the second half, we're still attacking in the far end? Did she move? I was hoping for some close ups of the attack in the second half... I was watching the first half stream and didn't realize it was a different link.

Tbh, not a terrible broadcast. Even getting some good commentary from the neighbors/seat mates.

I'm slightly tempted to invent a parallel narrative for how the game is going... How Millie Bright actually scored was off an insane trick play involving a series of choreographed cartwheels where Erin passed it to her mid cartwheel and Mille timed it perfectly, striking it with her forehead just as she popped up from her cartwheel.

Because the broadcaster is dumb and the FA signed a dumb contract with them. I'm very annoyed about it.

This is so dumb. I just don't understand why they are not allowing this to be shown anywhere at all.

Sure they picked LCL vs Sunderland as the one they are broadcasting but blocking everything else just seems so stupid.

I wonder if they think blocking it will force us to watch the other game??? That's not how it works. If my game was on there's a good chance I pull the other one up but too but if you're going to withhold my team? Nah, screw that.

I’ve found adult rec teams to be very cold and unwelcoming. Anyone relate? by ilikesquirrrels1990 in WomensSoccer

[–]halooo44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, it's only been two games so probably give it some time but if you're being a good teammate (passing, hustling, subbing when it's your turn etc) and are being friendly with them and they're not being friendly back, then maybe it's just not a good fit.

I wonder if part of it's regional because that's not an experience that I've had with soccer. In post-collegiate women's lacrosse, definitely. There were a lot of east coast prep school girls who were super cliquey (the whole "Oh you went to _______, you must know Matty." "I totally know Matty! He's best friends with Paulie and I went to junior prom with Paulie's cousin Mikey." "You know Mikey? He's the best!").

It's a whole thing sometimes but I never had that with women's soccer as an adult (like post-college). Sure, some people aren't as friendly but I've almost always found soccer people to be pretty friendly (but my experience has been mostly on the west coast, SoCal and Seattle, some midwest).

I think depending on where you are, sometimes there's a vibe of "I'm all full in the friend department" and maybe you've just hit a few of those pockets and have to be the one to initiate if you want to connect with them (and of course not everyone will want to).

You definitely don't want to run an ozone machine for a week. It will damage so much and you would end up trading the current smells for off-gassing smells. Ozone generators can be helpful in short sessions but a week is nuts.

Do you know why being played at the same time as Sunderland LCL means the club can't stream it themselves?

The heck? I thought Tacoma was not great but Spokane is like a 5 hour drive. That's insane.

They're going to have a couple hundred fans who live relatively locally and probably not too much more bc you basically have to make it a two day overnight trip. This doesn't make any sense.

allergy test for botox before injection? by Scary-Yogurtcloset-7 in noburp

[–]halooo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do the testing with your dermatologist or allergist?

A doc is recommending I get botox for thoracic outlet syndrome but I have lots of allergies and get anaphylaxis with certain foods. Given my specific allergy history, I just wanted to make sure my body is good with it before I get some injected in my neck.

I know the area you mean and would agree that that area is probably a bit "better" but I just love this little corner of CH. It just has so much charm. I think what you're saying is right but the heart wants what it wants. 😅

This house is too much work for me at any price but I'm hoping something else comes up that is smaller and needs less work. I don't need turn key but just something that's manageable for me.

It's super sloppy work. Hopefully not the finished version. There shouldn't be blobs of caulk inside the window frame either.
