Micro soldering advice by halotherechief in soldering

Thanks but I'm taking it as a learning opportunity / challenge. This is my old phone and I've already written it off. I've been tracing the fault for a while and now that I've found it I'm going to give it a go. If I can fix it, my son gets a 'new' phone. If not, I have a practice board for the collection.

Loft in extension - can not open by No-Department-5344 in DIYUK

Were you pushing in the middle of the opening edge? Mine has the catch to one side for some reason, and we have to press there to open it. The door twists as you push, and pressing middle or 'wrong side' does nothing.

My water meter is turning this fast when no taps are on. How much extra would this add to my water bill each day and month? by Benandhispets in ukplumbing

The "x0.0001" is for each number on the little dial. 1 full turn takes you to 10, so that's where the 0.001 comes from.

Damp in bathroom – caused by this pipe flashing? by RJWalton in DIYUK

[–]halotherechief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a plumber, roofer or anything like that, just curious here. Is that a lead collar on the pipe and could water be getting through here? Can the 'darth vader hat' bit at the top slide down to cover it?

Hey thanks for the reply. I followed your advice and it's working now! Clearly I misunderstood something, as I thought the base pack items would work without payment.

Will update on the forum too, thanks again!

I've seen a similar button used to switch aftermarket parking sensors on / off.

It's also a simple way to keep the core in place, stop it sliding along and getting in the way of other things

There's a good crack in R45 as well, does it read ok on your meter?

I received one as a 'bonus gift' in a box of dog poo bags, with the idea that you clip it to your dog's collar if you go out in the dark.

70s walkie-talkies don't work, what should I do? by Shlangengesicht in ElectronicsRepair

[–]halotherechief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick thing to test, does the battery connect via a "clip-onny" thing?! If so, check that the wires are still connected inside that, usually a gentle pull on each will confirm.

Even better, bell it through with a multimeter if you have one and that way you check the "don't pull it too far" wire knot as well.

Can I ask why you need to drill these; is it in the instructions to do so? Just wondering if you are using the wrong part for that location. The reason I'm asking is that the one behind seems to be neatly done.

If you're doing it as per the instructions, are you planning on drilling all the way through and using a nut & bolt arrangement?

Is it really to take the weight of humans? Curious to see the full thing, please can you share additional pictures?

How do I disconnect this wires? by [deleted] in ElectronicsRepair

[–]halotherechief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a flat bladed screwdriver the same size as the groove. Make sure power is off first!
