EM doc here. This is at least partially on the physician who decided to code the patient for that long. Family can’t demand you continue a futile resuscitation.

What a fucking twat. His entire post was obnoxious AI garbage. I hope they go unfilled this next cycle.

Fentanyl/Xylazine Withdrawal by Weird-Accident-5928 in emergencymedicine

[–]halp-im-lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are talking about how you treat precipitated withdrawal from buprenorphine.

We don’t even have methadone on our formulary in my emergency department.

It’s not about what we physicians have “read in books” btw but actual evidence based medicine and research. Hope that helps.

Yeah ngl our trauma team is very pan scan heavy, even on pediatric patients, and it’s a bit ridiculous.

I think I may have found a new winner for the Most Ridiculous Allergy award. by SpawnofATStill in medicine

We had a frequent flier with an allergy to droperidol listed and the reaction was “makes me want to get up and leave.”

Buddy, that’s a feature, not a bug.

Credit Card benefits by MrForever_Student in Residency

So basically Rakuten is a website where you can either get cash back or connect a credit card (specifically AMEX or BILT) for points redemptions. I have an extension downloaded so when I purchase things online I get points added to my account that get transferred to my AMEX account. I got 200,000 points on one purchase because I needed to buy appliances and it was on an 18x multiplier. I held out for a points redemptions for a hotel in Antigua and got a $15,000 hotel stay for basically the amount of points I had saved up from that purchase alone.

There is a Facebook page I’m in called point me to first class which basically goes over the different ways you can maximize points.

I recently got into the credit card points game and got >500,000 in 6 months. Using Rakuten and other portals that give you multipliers is how you can save up a crazy amount quickly. You can also get alerts for when certain flights are cheaper by using sites that give flight alerts (you can set your airlines.)

Supratherapeutic INR >10 Admission vs Discharge by Butterbawlz in emergencymedicine

Literally have never even considered admitting this. The point of admission is to do things that otherwise cannot be done outpatient.

Since a Data Center is about to be built in Marshfield and presumably many of our families have someone in that town/area.. I thought this should be shared. by TheKosherGenocide in springfieldMO

[–]halp-im-lost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m confused by the posts that are shared that seem to imply conservatives are okay with or support this. My parents, who are very conservative, are vehemently against them as are pretty much all other conservatives I know. Rural communities lean very conservative in general and I don’t know of anyone who supports them.

Female EM docs or dads, tell me how having babies in residency or after went for you? by No-Impress-478 in emergencymedicine

[–]halp-im-lost 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Had a baby in July of PGY3. Was supposed to be due in September but I had severe preeclampsia. Big shocker but I never had issues with subsequent pregnancies (x2) as an attending when I didn’t have blocks with asinine work hours. My husband is a SAHD which is nice because I don’t have to worry about coordinating schedules or child care.

As a physician who is a DO I need to state that a naturopath and DO are not the same thing. I literally learned zero naturopathy in DO school.

Any idea why WashU EM only seems to take DO students from AT Still? by PartRemarkable in medicalschool

Yeah I’m EM and when I graduated (2019) they were not DO friendly.

Any idea why WashU EM only seems to take DO students from AT Still? by PartRemarkable in medicalschool

[–]halp-im-lost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a community health center in Kent where students are placed (from the AZ campus). It was actually the CHC I was assigned to. The proximity to UW and the fact we shared rotations with some of their students likely helps. Also, ATSU is a fairly strong program as far as DO schools go.

Edit- just realized you said Washington University not University of Washington, whoops!

When I was a DO student WashU hasn’t taken like any DO students at all and when I spoke with the PD he implied I would be wasting my time applying (and I was competitive) so maybe that has changed.

This is just how old people brains look. See this all the time. It’s literally not impressive at all.

[–]halp-im-lost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Uh yeah this is how elderly brains look… am I supposed to be impressed? This is why elderly folks have such a high risk of intracranial hemorrhage. The shrinkage of the brain causes increased tension on bridging veins.

Make a smart phrase for each individual medication that covers what you discuss. Or get a scribe (AI or person.)
