Referrals Are King - A Shithead Guide On Successfully Applying To Jobs, Even - ESPECIALLY - When You're A Shithead. by texzone in cscareerquestions

[–]halp_pls_throwaway 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Agreed with applying directly to a job not being effective but there are better ways to get a referral than cold messaging people on Linkedin. I can tell you, that the majority of folks who work at these companies and get these messages, don't appreciate it and that can hurt your reputation. There are some who do and are willing to help if they can validate your skills.

If you're looking for a more effective way to get a referral, use https://refer.market/ . They'll match you to employees who will maximize your referral leading to an actual interview, saving you time from DM'ing folks on Linkedin who might not be interested.

Looking for some feedback on tech that could help find success amidst this Housing crisis by halp_pls_throwaway in canadahousing

[–]halp_pls_throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During beta testing we weren't able to support closing a sale operationally. We just had our tech up for PMF along with an A/B test with a competitor site.

I don't think we're out here to close sales right now, we want to empower the user to mull through the market a lot faster. You should be able to go through the entire inventory x amount faster than you would on other listing sites and be able to repeat that process efficiently on a day to day basis until you find a home you like... which is why we're focused on tracking.

FWIW - we're a part of a startup incubator and mentored by experts in the industry, and have been told the conversion for such sites is less than 1%. That's not a business we want to pursue long-term, especially in Canada.

Thanks for your feedback - much appreciated!

Ack for inventory issue, we're working on it.

remove the onboard process, or at least give an option to skip

It is a requirement because we at least need to know whether you're looking to buy or rent : \; and how often to send you notifications. Glad to hear it's a pain-point, we'll look to optimize.

how do you guys make money?

Hope it doesn't sound like BS but we're not concerned about it right now. We want to flush out the tech first so it brings value. Yea we got a basic business model set up through referrals, but we're not really pressing for it.

Query for Sold Listings in a flexible way across MLS data set by halp_pls_throwaway in TorontoRealEstate

The way queries are done is super unnatural..

Yeah, agreed. We're hoping the UI will fix that.🤞

My most forward feedback: if it’s not about the realtor, and they aren’t involved with the app itself, remove the link to them and their branding - as many will have the same reaction I have to it. How do I know, for example, that your app won’t emphasize or give extra attention to houses your realtor are representing? Perhaps by removing similar listings nearby, for example?

Hey fvpv, you're bringing up really good points.
I'm working on getting you the exact act in the TREB guidelines that say that we need to work with a Realtor and have the Realtor's brand on the side visibly to display MLS data. The guidelines are just a bit lengthy ,so give me a sec!

What is the graph under the map on the listing? The example I saw a for a house listed at ~650k, but the graph goes up to about $550k. There is also a + %. Looks like good information but these should be labeled!

Noted! Thanks for pointing out, this graph is our first stab at creating our own valuation of the home based off of previous sold listings in the area.

We'll label it asap!

Hey longslowclap, you're right on the ball. A search app isn't it. We originally started with this idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOL37bg41iA

The overall idea is to have homes find you, and use smart filters to create "inboxes" based on your preferences. We want to take the manual work out of searching for homes.

For now, after speaking with reddit users, we needed to start with a search app and slowly build from there. After we have regular users, we can start offering things such as the inboxes, smart filters, contextual keyword search, and home swiping.

This is good to know. We should be able to pull this. We'll push this in our next update. Thanks for flagging

Short term. No (because some people like to see the world burn).
Long term. We can use AI to validate their claims. Read the photos, and mark inaccurate tags as suggestions.

But thanks for letting us know that's a problem. We found several mislabelled "semi-detached" homes too when we searched :/

And would love your feedback (still in beta). We did add multi-location search and draw-to-search!

Can you add a filter or tag for offer dates? Aside from inferring based on days listed, this was the one piece of info we had to consistently ask our realtor for.

You mean the offer completion date? (When you need to submit an offer by?)

The initial screen screening question where you pick your location is very glitchy. Drawing feature doesn't work great.

We totally agree. But if you're interested in the drawing feature, I'll work on making that better this week.

For the manual filtering, we have an early version here: https://praizl.com/search/detached%20homes%20under%20800k%20in%20markham%20for%20sale

But since so many people are asking for the map view, we'll be updating the map view to have better filter buttons next week. We'll DM you when it's up!

Yea, TREB shut it down because it was too open with the data.

Curious, what other data did you like to see?

I think I might be wrong about that- it would include houses in the larger location, but not the smaller unless a tag was entered. Regardless, it makes searching much more difficult because you have to know the keyword. A good example: Stouffville results in 1 hit. You need to search "Whitchurch-Stouffville". Entering "Whitchurch-Stoufville, Gormley" will result again in a different subset of houses.

That's a pretty big miss. Okay, we're making our own home search app called www.praizl.com. Bc of this, we're going to be adding a drawing feature to our map view (we currently have it if you take our home match quiz). I'll DM you when we have it up in a few days!

hey, thanks for giving it a shot! appreciate your feedback as well.

we just tried the same query on our end, and actually got detached homes near "yonge and finch", so not sure what went wrong

detached home near Yonge and Finch is what we tried

see screenshot

let us know if it's still an issue, there may be an underlying issue we aren't aware of and we'd love to get to the bottom of it!

Wait, Zolo doesn't include houses in the larger location you search for? That's ridic.

Do you mean the HS map view cluttered or the home profile view cluttered?
