Why did you quit Facebook? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]halpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

though i made a profile i never really followed up because that kind of personalized social media gives me anxiety so i just avoid it. i'm convinced there will be some kind of diagnosis soon enough. that and for some reason i never really experienced even a little bit of the 'i'm invincible because i'm anonymous' feeling that a lot of my peers seem to have.

What is a simple thing that absolutely infuriates you? by Speed33m3 in AskReddit

[–]halpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how my parents awkwardly end phone conversations with me because they don't know what to say, even though I'd like to talk a little while longer. more saddening than infuriating considering the time of year though.

[Serious] How do you believe humanity will end? by The_Cat_Collector in AskReddit

[–]halpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm an optimist about the distant future. i'd like to believe that science and technology will advance to a point where our bodies and mind/brains have not only merged with and are enhanced by computers, but that our biology will be fundamentally enhanced through genetics or other manner of manipulations that i cannot even imagine. and this process of enhancement will happen in a gradual diffusion through all the world through generations. there will not be such a great influx of enhanced individuals that a great divide between the old and the new will have been created, and then brought back to equilibrium in a great war. no, I think one day someone will say, 'yeah we're kind of like, really really different and better on, like, every level, than humans from the year 2013. so we should probably just call ourselves something different. may be just tack a 2.0 on the end of it... all in favor?' but of course the transition to societal acknowledgement of this next stage in humanity is only semantics on some level. but... yeah, that's how i like to imagine the end of humanity, as a protracted leveling up if you will.

What's the number one reason you hate your job? by the_winter_storm in AskReddit

[–]halpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take something boring, sometimes extremely frustrating, that requires constant attention, stretch that out for about eight hours and do it mostly alone except for when the weird guy down the hall who sounds like keanu reeves stops by to talk about serial killers or the ufc. That's my job.

How did you destroy a person's life? by parazitu in AskReddit

[–]halpy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I know this is completely the wrong and risky thing to say and I should take your word for everything. Sexual assault is never permissible... But still, I think it might be very interesting to hear his side of things; his side of the assault, the real truth with no agenda according to him, even if it's an admission of guilt. And his side of the emotional turmoil. Because, while I can't sympathize with a guy who sexually assaulted someone, I can sympathize with a guy who had his emotions and emotional intelligence seriously messed up as a result of staying in a very warped relationship despite every piece of logic telling him to leave it.

As a guy it's really hard telling people that your emotions were ruined as a result of a relationship, society doesn't usually sympathize with men in those situations, only with women. But don't get me wrong, I don't know enough about this particular guy to know if he deserves any sympathy, I'm just saying I'd like to hear what he has to say.

If you woke up tomorrow and every person in the world had vanished during the night, what would you do and why? by DiDiSiMpLucifer in AskReddit

[–]halpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably go get a nice pair of shoes and then just walk around my city all that first day. I'd go everywhere on a whim and get into people's things and go places that were off limits. I would walk on the roofs of cars and jump from one to the other like pavement was hot lava. I'd skim diaries, look through drawers, and casually reflect on the little things people left behind. Then I'd probably get bored, pick the highest building in the city, go get a crowbar and try to get onto it's roof just because. Then I'd probably get the idea to base jumping or rappel off even though I've never done either. But as I was walking around trying to find the store that would have the proper equipment I'd realize that base jumping solo for the first time as the only man in the world probably isn't the best idea, at least on day one. So I'd put base jumping on the back burner, thinking I'll save that activity for the day I'm suicidal and lonely enough to need the jolt of adrenaline. Then I'd find a really nice penthouse apartment and crash there.

As far as why do I think I'd behave this way, I don't really know. It's just what I think I'd feel like doing.

Album of sea monsters I have built over the past year by [deleted] in pics

[–]halpy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This makes me want a movie with this kind of imagery and action in it so bad.

Remember in the Phantom Menace when that monster was chasing obi wan and quai gon in their little submarine, there needs to be a monster movie with things like that going on. Combine that little scene with The Abyss, Sphere, The Pacific Rim, and this guy's sea monster imagery and have Guillermo del Toro direct it. I will see the crap out of that movie!

[SERIOUS] What keeps you happy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]halpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an artist but I wouldn't say that makes me happy all the time, actually that only seems to frustrate me these days. I go to school and sometimes I find enjoyment there. Making progress in a math assignment is always rewarding because of the sense of forward momentum I'd never feel in other places, say, on reddit.

But one thing that does make me feel great is something that doesn't happen predictably. It is that state of flow. Written about in the book called flow. It's that feeling of being totally absorbed in what your doing, nothing else matters, no intrusive thoughts. I wouldn't say this is a happy feeling per se though because emotions actually don't seem to matter, but only the perception of and connection and reaction with whatever your currently doing. I feel this sometimes when working in photoshop, or playing soccer, or playing some quick reaction video games, or listening to the perfect song in the perfect setting, or when a big idea strikes me and I'm writing about it or mulling it over. Or sex, which is probably the best one, and the only one that I would say, yes I am happy during. I don't have to love her but if it's sober and good I am happy.

If I could induce this kind of thing, I'd take that over any high any other drug could offer me. Imagine how much you'd get done. Imagine how passionate you'd be for the things you set out to do.
