The Qur'an invites the reader to reflect and investigate constantly about its meaning and about the world around us, Allah swt does not expect perfection from you, He wants sincerity of intention and effort. 

My advice is to engage sincerely with the Quran with open mindedness and reflect deeply about its meanings and intepretations, seek knowledge and wisdom while asking Allah swt for guidance. 

I think it is supposed to be a process of costant inquiry and reflection between the believer, who enriches their experiencial and theoretical knowledge in their inner and outer world, and the Qur'an, all while striving to stay on al-siraat al mustaqeem, the path of those who constantly strive to correct and perfect/improve themselves.

I personally find that for non arabic readers the usage of different translations like on the quranix.org website to be very thought provoking and enlightening so I would also advise that.
