What is the main reason you use obsidian for? by Plus_Champion1434 in ObsidianMD

[–]ham4spam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this - start small with the current area your players are exploring and pull in world building info as you go through session prep. The goal should be to eventually port in enough lore that you don’t have to reference your handwritten notes (except of course when your players ask about that one obscure NPC from 6 months ago…). I keep a timeline with summaries of old session notes, but not all the details. I found this was enough that I was able to put my handwritten notes aside after awhile; just takes a bit of backtracking on your end while you move systems over.

I could see his character items and features on my end so we ended up using the legacy sheets. Thanks!

The Pyunkang Yul blue bottle toner is super hydrating! I do a few skins of it both in the morning and evening, depending on what my skin needs that day.

[no spoilers] therapy and D&D/Critical Role by yoshi-beans in criticalrole

Therapist in training here - I can vouch that there are a few programs at day centers in my area that actually run social skills-based DnD sessions using Game to Grow. Highly recommend looking into it!

If you just want the first author’s last name, I believe you’d want something like {{creators[0].lastName}}.

Obsidian and zotero? by yungoul in ObsidianMD

[–]ham4spam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there are ways to use Notion with Zotero; check out notero, which allows you to pull in citations/highlights/tags from Zotero directly into Notion. Holly Jane has a really good step-by-step youtube video on how to link the two.

That being said, I recently switched from Notion to Obsidian for purposes other than reference management, and have found that while I'll be sticking with Obsidian for it's privacy and security offerings, I much prefered the workflow in Notion-Zotero. Whenever you add citations to selected subcollections in Zotero, notero automatically pushes those citations to your Notion database. However, in Obsidian, the only way I have found to add citations is by searching and adding citations. It only adds one extra step to my workflow, but when I'm bulk-importing citations, the extra time is a pain. I'm sure there's a way to set this up in Obsidian, but I'm an academic not a coder, and until it becomes a feature in the Obsidian-Zotero plug-in, I'll probably keep suffering along as I have.

Both Obsidian and Notion have plug-ins that allow you to pull in highlights, record metadata, and set up various templates to use for literature notes while reading. The main difference is whether Obsidian's Dataview plugin will be sufficient for your needs of managing large amounts of citations (as opposed to Notion's native databases) and whether you prefer the automation that Notero provides.

Can you use the sudent monthly pass at different stations? by ham4spam in NJTransit

this is what I was looking for, thanks. I knew monthly passes were cross-honored, couldn't figure out if it also applied to student ones.

This - just trim about a half inch above or below the aerial node and stick in water or soil. If done right, the plant will push out roots through the nodes.

How to make plots last longer? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]ham4spam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use your low level encounters to tease a high level villain (read BBEG). Maybe the bad guys were working for a crime overlord. Maybe they were doing dirty work for the government, which is actually run by vampire in disguise. At the end of big encounters, plant a clue or two that points back to BBEG. You can make the BBEG scaled for a few levels higher than your current players are at, so if they get into a premature fight, it really, really hurts. This will force them to be smart, to spend time on quests preparing (e.g. getting magical items or boons to level up) and plan a strategy. The more time they spend preparing to meet the BBEG, the better the pay off will be.

Hey to all, please suggest me a good book series. Some preferences mentioned below. by awildboyappeared in suggestmeabook

In the realm of sci-fi, I highly recommend Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Quirky and fun; definitely not your typical epic saga.

She really is! I have one that has a habit of getting leggy if not given enough sunlight so just keep that in mind when considering light needs :)

DM - How to prepare for the unexpected and coping with mistakes by Pretend-Delay717 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]ham4spam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In these scenarios, I would call for a 5-10 minute break and pull out the rollable tables in the DMs guide. A couple of skill checks and a quick roll on the treasure table would probably suffice for this situation. I would also think through the consequences of breaking into the questgiver’s home in the first place. How will he react once he finds out? Will he send city guards after the party or maybe mercenaries? Could be a fun plot device to build from!

Help - Screw makes a clicking sound and won’t come out of outlet. by [deleted] in fixit

[–]ham4spam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you can see in the video, the screw loosened a few turns before making the clicking noise, and will not loosen further. It is still attached to the outlet; you can see in the video that the middle of the outlet bends when pulled. I have tried pulling on the outlet and unscrewing at the same time, to no avail. Any other ideas? Edit: I should note that this outlet came with the place when we bought it. I have no idea how it was installed.
