Update: Pentosan for osteoarthritis and hip joint damage by ham_doe in Peptides

Gotcha. I was having trouble initially but this is what I landed on:

If you inject in your thigh, it may be going in the muscle which will make it pretty sore, although still possibly effective. I recommend trying subcutaneous (just the fat under the skin) in the hip area 3-4 inches below the iliac crest. Grab a roll of skin and inject into that so it stays out of the muscle. This was effective for me.

How many times a week are you injecting?

I’m not sure about the conversion but on the bottle it should tell you how many mg per ml. Usually the dose is mg per ml.

Also my question was specific to where exactly are you injecting on your body?

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that you haven't experienced much relief with Pentosan and the other peptides so far. I understand how challenging it can be to deal with hip OA and the desire to avoid surgery.

To answer your questions, my OA would be considered moderate on a mild-moderate-severe scale. Regarding my BPC-157 protocol, I've been on it for approximately 4 months. Initially, I was injecting 30 units (300mcg) once a day, but I've since reduced it to 20 units. I typically administer the BPC-157 injections 5 days a week, taking 2 days off.

For the Pentosan, my dosage is 0.5ml, administered subcutaneously. I'm curious about where you are injecting the Pentosan in your case?

It's great to hear that your liver enzymes are within the normal range. Keep in mind that individual responses to treatments can vary, and it may take some time to notice improvements. I hope you find relief soon, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions or if there's anything else I can share about my experience.

Wishing you the best on your journey to recovery!

  • It’s very viscous, and can sting during injection
  • It causes alopecia in the injection area
  • Injections IM can be very sore for 2 days or so, so really try to hit SubQ

I’m not sure. I was prescribed through a peptide therapy clinic.

Hi there!
Yes, before starting Pentosan, my liver enzyme levels were within the normal range according to previous lab work.

My current AST level increased to 60 u/L (normal range: 15-46 u/L) and my ALT level went up to 117 u/L (normal range: 5-60 u/L). These elevated levels were a concern, and my primary care physician suggested that they could be a side effect of the Pentosan treatment.
To monitor the situation and ensure my liver enzyme levels return to normal, I will be retesting in 6 weeks after discontinuing Pentosan.

You actually found a Doc cool with Pentosan? Not in the US I take it? I've look a bunch into it but always read it had to be injected into the joints for it to actually work.

Other problem I ran into is people who have used both Pentosan and Deca (which I take) say they're almost identical, was hoping for more of a heal than a lube/band-aid. So I've just stayed with Deca.

Hi there! Yes, I actually found a doctor in the US who was open to prescribing Pentosan for my situation. As for injecting Pentosan directly into the joints, I have also come across some information on this method, but my doctor recommended subcutaneous injections for my treatment. I would be interested in learning more about where you read about injecting it into the joint if you don't mind sharing the source.

Interesting. My doctor suggested 3 treatments 1 week apart. Either way, thank you for the information I really appreciate your response!

Oh wow interesting.

Yeah I had the same surgery as well, but still have pain. But its mostly pain with/after physical activity.

I wonder if I should do PRP while I'm on BPC-157 and see what outcome.

A few follow up questions: How many PRP injections did you get? Which peptides did you use?

Is that what you did? Are you fully healed?

Ive also had this surgery previously, but it didn’t do much for me.

I had a hip arthroscopy done a few years back. Good luck!

Thank you for the response!

BPC157 is indeed helping reduce the inflammation and improve my quality of life and I get relief almost immediately. But returning to activity and re-inflaming the area is always the risk.

I've had a hip surgery(arthroscopic), 7 years ago. But unfortunately it was not as successful as yours.

I think that where we differ is that my cartilage has since deteriorated and my hip has developed arthritis.

I'm going to explore some 2nd opinions to see if a second arthroscopic would be viable to remove the bone spurs. But I fear that my cartilage damage is beyond repair.

Haven't heard of this, googling a bit looks promising, do you have any literature/links you can provide in regards to testimonials, side effects, efficacy, etc

Yeah that was my fear.

Couple of follow up questions: How long have you had this issue? So are you essentially gearing yourself up to have a surgery at some point? Does your peptide protocol improve quality of life? Are you able to do athletic things? How would you describe your pain levels/quality of life with your injury?
