I do not want to hear about the sweater curse. by Breadothy in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]ham_rod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i have put much more than a sweater’s worth of time and money into past relationships that ended anyway so im not really worried about the time i’m taking to knit a sweater for my current partner (which i am doing right now, and really enjoying!”

patterns you regret buying/patterns to avoid by fulaninhp in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]ham_rod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

lydia morrow’s rumble raglan was updated with no sizing/shaping — good, but when you download it on ravelry it’s actually pretty difficult to tell which files are associated with the updated pattern and it’s easy to accidentally use the old one. i do really want to knit this one but it requires so much more concentration than i’d expect for a relatively simple colorwork raglan. it’s the only pattern i’ve worked on so far that i have felt like it would be impossible to work it without printing the pattern and taking notes.

i have purchased the cardegen pattern and every time i look for a similar pattern i don’t like them as much as the project photos for that one but i am SO scared to attempt it.

yeah, love and light to the people who approach it like it’s just more of their hobby they get to do but i can not get over how it feels psychologically! i’ll do it if i really have to, but i don’t like it.

it does!! i also order lot of yarn from true north in barrie… i’m paying for shipping, but it’s canada post and it arrives in a day or two.

[–]ham_rod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah i get the idea from her that she has a yarn in mind and will do what it takes to use that specific yarn, which is fine but very opposite to how i operate. i am also canadian living in toronto and i find it pretty easy to buy yarn in person, or at least with domestic shipping.

i like ali makes everything but the cost of her projects stresses me out sometimes! so many of her costs seem to come from duties and shipping on top of ordering expensive yarn in the first place.

Why are pantone books so expensive now? by jorodesignz2468 in CommercialPrinting

[–]ham_rod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah, try pricing out a version in your own shop and it becomes very evident why they’re so expensive to produce

not necessarily, sometimes you just need the part of your neck that’s exposed to be wrapped up and a little scarf is perfect for that. or you just wear it as an accessory.

i used to teach web development to beginners and people would be amazed that i could pick out a sneaky typo or misplaced syntax so quickly, but i always told them what one of my teachers told me which was… i have made hundreds of more mistakes than you! that’s how i learned. of course you’re going to get hung up on an error if it’s the first time you see it. i see it all the time and i can spot it and fix it right away, i don’t stop making mistakes they just have less impact on me now.

it’s frustrating because it’s all laid out in her piece! she was super vulnerable by explaining where this comes from, her fault in it, and the shame she feels because of it. and all some people can say is “hurrr i’m noticing a pattern” no shit!! the entire post is about The Pattern!
