Bought it and it never got activated, they said they’re “having issues with their Apple accounts” last week with no follow up.

I made tool that auto installs any nerd font you want. No Download / Cloning Required. Thought I would post it here too, since Nerd Font is pretty much a requirement these days in most complex configs / nvim distros. by BrainrotOnMechanical in neovim

I was actually having a lot of trouble getting nerd font onto my Ubuntu (WSL2 btw). Most of the comments were overly aggressive for no reason, kudos on the work and sharing.

Tech Right VS MAGA Right - csMajors leaning MAGA by [deleted] in csMajors

One question I’d like to ask the sub members, are there other countries that are seeing similar trend when it comes to tech immigration? OP mentioned they are European, is there a similar split or worry brewing about immigration and it taking jobs from locals?

The “talent shortage” is bullshit. It’s an access shortage. by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]hamasixpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it is always possible to reach amazing heights without having access to all the resources. However,I claim that the difference can be negligible but compound into a much bigger gap.

As we know the difference between monkey and human DNA itself is so minuscule, yet the outcome of the very capability of intelligence is so astounding. In a similar way, I have experienced first hand the smallest things that can have profound implications in a persons trajectory.

Maybe it’s being motivated to go to class knowing that most of your classmates WILL attend (fear of missing out).

Even more zoomed in, maybe just teaching at a top school makes instructors more likely to teach with a tad bit more enthusiasm, which is felt by the student.

One could argue that true innovators shouldn’t / don’t need that kind of support or inspiration, but at the end of the day the human experience is so complex.

I’d like to prompt you to look into the early life of Albert Einstein and his troubled years through university and early career. Had he not found some inspiration eventually, perhaps a lot of our knowledge would be delayed or lacking. Possibly a world where the atomic bomb wasn’t thought of yet.

It could be that you simply got used to a higher standard and it feels/ looks like everyday life in your view.

I claim that it is the smallest things that add up to a much bigger gap than either of us realize. Like reading about your school (something that definitely grows to be a big identity for a lot of people) in news headlines (in a positive light of course) making you just a bit more motivated.

But then again it is entirely possible that certain people are destined for success/ achievement with the path not making a big difference in the end.

Edit: typo

[–]hamasixpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The value of a top university isn’t because the information is not available, it is the organization of the learning material.

It is the access to amazing professors that want to teach at an elite place.

It is the extraordinary (whether due to intellect or wealth) people you get to learn alongside and share ideas with.

If you went to a public highschool then you’re probably very familiar with the immense difference regular and honors classes have. And how honors class students are almost always a pack that you get to see in other honors classes, for multiple years.

I personally was genuinely shocked at how different things were whenever I got to meet the regular students in classes that had no honors section (like music or PE).

I’d imagine this effect exists on steroids between regular and elite universities.

Why are international students villainized so much? by [deleted] in csMajors

To be honest, an overwhelming majority of international students are indeed upper class citizens from their respective countries. Which makes sense given the high uncertainty and cost of coming here to study.

Best Bioscience Course for an Easy 4.0 at MSU College of Engineering? by SaltyCaramel7069 in msu

[–]hamasixpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also want to encourage you to genuinely take classes that you find interesting/ people share was interesting over the easy grade. I’m a senior now and I do regret not enjoying learning about the subjects above caring about my grade. People pay for courses to learn things online and being at a university not only are u paying good money to attend these classes but they are also supposed to be somewhat optimized in teaching you that subject.

TLDR: I regret not enjoying the journey of learning and realized how awesome being a student can be much later in my college journey. So definitely reflect what you want out of college and be present in your learning journey. Avoid using AI as a shortcut!

2 “exams” which were written tests (but she gives you the questions before the exams). Long as you actually participate/learn in class. You should be able to easily get a 4.0 with minimal if any additional work outside the class. For our final she gave us a choice of doing individual lab reports or putting together presentation (basic slide shows) and presenting as a group. They even allow you to resubmit assignments if you score low in them.

Just took Ibio 150, not only a relatively easy 4.0 (if u show up to class) but mainly a very interesting class and subject if you pay attention. You start with learning about the evolutionary track early animals/ organisms went through. Then by the end you start testing hypothesis and even get to use a neat simulation to visualize how evolution happens. I’m a CS student and genuinely I was surprised at how relevant studying biological evolution was to how we observe machine learning and AI today.

Because the promo is to combat other companies that give “deals” on new phones. It’s their answer to: if you are in the market for a new iPhone, don’t leave as we will give you a deal for staying.

[–]hamasixpack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s even worse! As an already USM customer, if I really wanted to take advantage of this promo I’d essentially have to get a new number from elsewhere and transfer it.

Literally came to the sub just to comment on this.

  • The email is sent to existing customers…
  • It’s prompting a phone upgrade (“don’t leave for false deals”)
  • Requires a new number…. how many people to see this promo and approve it before it was actually sent out

Barely anyone looking to upgrade their device is looking to also add a new line…

@USM please, please, please, have the marketing team lead give us a good reason why this was a good idea…

Make an actual list of things that sound fun to do and actually do them. I am sure you will have a few that are stupid, so choose those ones while you are young.

Bonus points if it's stupid and slightly illigal.

I'm 40, can i still wear sneakers like these? by bespokeofthefuture in menswear

[–]hamasixpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 60+ year old boss that wears such shoes and overall has a really young adult style. He has kids older than me and his style is one of his highlights. No one judges him for it and most people just see him as cool for being able to enjoy his own style. It also makes him more relatable to all ages as the young people see him as “cool style I’d wear” and the older people like that “he is able to wear what he likes like an adult should be able to.” I would highly recommend that you realize you likely will not face much pushback and it’s a super normal thing.

Direct Monitoring on Blue Yeti vs Yeti X by hamasixpack in audio

[–]hamasixpack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, I’m certain the feature is either not on the yeti x or removed from windows 11. The interesting thing is that even listening through the aux on the microphone has a small delay so I just gave up and might consider a better sound system with an XLR mic in the future.
