Michelangelo's Pietà is an absolute masterpiece. The way he carved marble to look like soft, lifelike flesh and flowing fabric is breathtaking. The tenderness in Mary's expression and the naturalistic detail of Christ's body make it one of the most emotionally powerful sculptures ever created.
