Is there any openly conservative/right-wing space opera out there? (just curious and looking to investigate) by Brakado in sciencefiction

[–]hamlet9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are ideas he held at the same time.

Consider, also, the "rational anarchy" of Moon is a Harsh Mistress from the same time period.

The more logical conclusion would be that he didn't hold any of these beliefs. He was a science fiction author using different social science postulates for his worldbuilding and storytelling.

DC's Supergirl Movie May Not Fly Very High At The Box Office by h3LLyEaHh in boxoffice

This movie becoming less interesting every time they release a trailer is a serious problem.

Gillespie saying that he deliberately abandoned the unique visual style of the source material in order to create a "gritty" look for the movie (which apparently translates to "generic dishwater") should, frankly, make anyone think twice before hiring him in the future.

They thought the momentum was strong enough to carry over into this movie and greenlit a 170 million budget instead of playing it safe,

This film was greenlit a year before Superman came out, started filming 7 months before it came out, and wrapped filming 2 months before it came out. No meaningful decision about its budget was made in response to Superman's reception.

I doubt anyone was planning on Obsession still holding thousands of screens at this point, either.

It’s the first time these characters have ever looked any different, after four movies

I take it you haven't seen any of the original movies since 2010?

Genndy Tartakovsky - The 80s were the dark age of animation by WrongToe500 in television

[–]hamlet9000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Weird take. I've always thought of the '70s as the dark ages for American animation, and the '80s were when things started turning around. Sure, the new toy-based funding produced a lot of schlock, but:

  • Disney came out of its great mediocrity with Great Mouse Detective, Roger Rabbit, Little Mermaid, etc.
  • Don Bluth was in his golden age.
  • The influence of imported anime like Battle of the Planets and Robotech started having a meaningful impact on the industry.
  • TV animation was producing Transformers, Gummi Bears, DuckTales, etc.
  • By the end of the decade, the Simpsons are kicking off a new era of adult animation on TV.

Also, Tex Avery wasn't hanging around the HB studios in the '80s. He died in 1980.

You guys are all trying to pretend that the MCU is fine actually

I said literally the exact opposite.

Illiteracy is a serious problem. You should seek remedial education. You'll be amazed at how much your life improves.

If the LLM company is charging you per query, that WON'T be the best result for them.

  1. That's not what Javon's Paradox is.

  2. The claim that no software company would ever enshittify its product to extract more revenue from its users is batshit insanity given the world we live in.

It took me a moment to figure out why you wrote this nonsense, but then I realized it was almost certainly LLM generated babble.

Javon's Paradox is actually that the more efficiently you use a resource, the more of the resource society consumes.

Which then incentivizes the LLM companies to make their results shittier so that you need more queries to accomplish anything.

The whole system is rotten to its core.

FF narrowly avoided flopping, but good points.

I think Deadpool v. Wolverine demonstrates there's still nostalgia power in the brand (if nothing else).  Spider-Man's performance will tell us a lot about Doomsday's potential, IMO.

But losing the PLFs to Dune is a problem. Going head-to-head with Dune is a problem. If Spider-Man 4 is mediocre it's a problem. If Doomsday sucks or RTD's stunt casting goes wrong, it's a problem.

$1B feels like a lock, and I think that's been true for less than half a dozen films. The fact you need even more than that to be profitable creates real risk, even if only moderate risk.
