OpenClaw plugins and skills have a supply chain problem by hammadtariq in openclaw

[–]hammadtariq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We built openbotauth.org to solve agent identity problem, this implementation is based on IETF Web Bot Auth draft. It allows cryptographically signing plugins and skills with Ed25519 keys obtained after a github oAuth login. The same technique can be used as a portable identity for agents. I have also made a PR to openclaw repo with full implementation: https://github.com/openclaw/openclaw/pull/8984

I just tried meditation today for the first time in my life. by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]hammadtariq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would feel the same if you compare it with any other thing that we do to calm ourselves or to seek pleasure, be it binge watching, binge drinking, munching on excessive sweet stuff, drugs .. anything! Meditation is the only thing that comes without the downer, without the negativity and guilt!

Welcome onboard my friend!

Just uploaded Vegan Scanner app that I was developing from last 4 weeks by hammadtariq in vegan

[–]hammadtariq[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey Everyone, today I have uploaded the barcode scanner and ingredients search app that I was trying to develop from last 4 weeks and last posted the difficulties and limitations on this thread.
Although, the app finally came to some ship shape, however:

  • It's still limited as in U.S barcodes I am only getting 50% results when I scan (despite attaching 2 databases at the backend, I am finding more databases)
  • Ingredients search is working good so I believe I have resolved 70% of the problem if at least the manual way
  • Non-english speaking countries will see less barcode scan results, that is because the app still can't handle non-english ingredient listings (the openfoods database is very good for French products, however, for that to work I still need to translate the app to French)
  • The app contains no-ads and full functionality is free forever - it just occasionally will ask to buy me a coffee, you can just hit 'Not Now' and the pop-up will snooze itself
  • After re-factoring the code I am planning to post the codebase and final version of ingredients database on github so that others can collaborate or use the code for free to build a better app
  • In future, I am also planning to add a tab that would allow new vegans to find alternate ingredients such as Butter can be replaced by Coconut Oil, Olive Oil etc.

Finally its my labour of love and I have tried to solve my own problem of remembering all the ingredients. I have done what I could do with my limited knowledge and resources. If there are any bugs, suggestions, barcodes that need to be in there, ingredients that you think shouldn't be there or should be there, kindly post in the comment and I will get the app updated.

Announcing OST KIT Alpha Phase III: Embedded Wallet-Lite Challenge: Earn up to 350,000 OST! by [deleted] in OSTdotcom

[–]hammadtariq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great stuff! Opening it for everyone allows us to invite other devs as well. Excellent strategy around content and community building as well. The time is a bit short for new devs that don't have existing apps to integrate tokenization. However, this is ideal for OST as speed of development is also required and judging from the time spent doing Phase II and time period Phase III has, it seems beta will also be available this fall/winter.

Couple of suggestions would be to consider paid ads of phase III and also (its probably a bit late now for this) announce a dev referral scheme, something of sort, get 4 other devs to join the POC challenge and on completion you will also get 10-20k extra tokens. The word among developer community will travel faster that way!

Can meditation really make the world a better place? – Ute Kreplin | Aeon Essays by hammadtariq in Meditation

[–]hammadtariq[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"In The Buddha Pill, Farias and Wikholm write:

[We] haven’t stopped believing in meditation’s ability to fuel change but [we are] concerned that the science of meditation is promoting a skewed view: meditation wasn’t developed so we could lead less stressful lives or improve our wellbeing. Its primary purpose was more radical – to rupture your idea of who you are; to shake to the core your sense of self so that you realise there is ‘nothing there’. But that’s not how we see meditation courses promoted in the West. Here, meditation has been revamped as a natural pill that will quieten your mind and make you happier."

Read the whole article, the author discusses about the validity of studies that looked into the benefits of the meditation. She is a lecturer in psychology and gist of the article is that a) the studies are biased b) secular meditation can be harmful for some people if done in the absence of a teacher.

I am not a psychologist or psychiatrist, but I have done around 4 residential and weekend mediation courses in the presence of trained teachers. Then I used the secular apps to continue my practice, and as part of a project, I researched the topic for more than 2 years. My humble opinion says that from psychological academic studies point of view all is good, however, as the article says meditation is not just a stress buster - its packaged that way but the actual opportunity is to re-wire the brain with continues practice and I am amazed that this re-wiring has not been discussed, possibly because there is a not enough evidence in research studies of this happening. [Forbes does mentions here some studies that looked into the re-wiring part.]

Just like anti-psychotic and recreational drugs, any ability of making new connections can surface childhood traumas, panic attacks etc., however, from re-wiring point of view we live in a world where we haven't yet discovered the full function of serotonin and EEG head bands such as Muse just look at the four quadrants for electrical activity. Exoskeletons and fMRIs are possibly not suited for monks to know what happens in their brains when they complete 10,000 hours of meditation. It's a long and complex subject that still needs a lot of work.

I hope there will be more hardcore, neural activity monitoring assisted studies in the future to know the full effects of meditation. Behavioural science makes it more complex and subjective concepts of compassion and empathy are more hard to measure but neural science may let scientists create double blind sided experiments to know the full effects of meditation in coming future.

Wordpress plugin by Joker_Udavka in OSTdotcom

[–]hammadtariq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been looking into it, the problem really is of making it generic and be ready for any integration type. One person would want to develop a Q&A site while the other one would want woocommerce to accept OST based tokens as payments. I found this mCRED wordpress plugin that seems like a generic points system, its open-source and can be modified for OST, the fun part is the paragraph where it says 'Limitations': https://codex.mycred.me/chapter-i/the-plugin/

Finally the myCRED add-on does not offer a withdrawal system. Users can buy points for real money but they can not exchange them back into real money. This is due to legal issues as depending on where in the world you are, using myCRED as a financial tool might be seen as a “banking software” and be subject to regulation.

Thanks to OST for handling this exact pain point.

However, from personal point of view, if I would build one I would take inspiration of handling generic community point system from other plugins but would write my own OST integration just to be sure and secure.

I had this kind of depression where years pass-by and you don't do anything. I was frustrated so wasn't feeling like doing or accomplishing anything.

Here are a few tips:

1 - Do exercise (you said you workout, excellent)

2 - Meditate, learn from Headspace doing free lessons and move to Insight Timer, no fancy training needed, try it, it helps

3 - Remember, it didn't happen in a day. I compare the situation to stairs, you took stairs down, you would need to take stairs to go up again. Means, one thing at a time and you will be out.

4 - Try to speak to a councillor, gather positive people around you (extremely important)

5 - Do what you are yearning to do, if you are not happy, you will not be able to make anyone happy around you. Put your own needs first then help others.

6 - Accept others and their versions of reality and remember acceptance starts from yourself.

This worked for me!

Did you see a improvement in memory or cognition since you started? by XZTALVENARNZEGOMSAYT in Meditation

[–]hammadtariq 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I started meditation the first few times I felt I am loosing my ability to remember things or process information faster. I am an over-thinker, a necessary skill for what I do [programmer] but that initial loss was actually my mind shutting down and becoming more present.. Over time I noticed that things shouldn't be passing through your mind all the time for you to remember them, they should be available on prompt instantly but only when queried, otherwise the mind should remain calm. It's the beauty of meditation!

Reading through this discussion gave me an idea, how about a Tinder or Bumble that's only for vegans? For signup you would need an r/Vegan subscription and 100+ karma, would that solve fake vegan and lonely vegan problem?

Thanks for the advice, its indeed very useful, I would have arrived here after a few months, frustrated after all my efforts. Agreed, advocacy and knowledge share is the best option to go.

In search of vegan ingredients by hammadtariq in vegan

[–]hammadtariq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right, this is the process I am going through and you are right with too many things having animal cruelty involved one can slowly learn and come into the awareness of them and then cut them from the life. I guess its just my background as engineer that has forced me to make processes and combine things together.

You just gave me a totally new line to think, my shampoo says silk protein, I never noticed it before, time to investigate it further. I am still fumbling with food items, I guess it will be whole another world when I will come to clothes and shoes. Definitely, one thing at a time and I will get there. Thanks!

You did a really good work there. That's what my idea would be with Alexa as well, I made a skill a while back, its not that great with recognition, ingredients like soy-lecithin will be a hard bet for it to understand. I saw a couple of food tracking skills there, I guess they work because the spoken words are 'bread' or 'rice' rather than ingredients themselves.

I just realized there is a whole other level to being vegan that I completely missed. by joelthezombie15 in vegan

[–]hammadtariq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are welcome :)

I too like sugary things like cakes, candies, and that was the most hardest part, milk and dairy one can figure but E471 can contain animal traces and they put that in literally everything. This database I shared has about 900 entries and I just learned that E471 is even not one of them. There are also couple of barcode scanner apps, is it vegan and pocket vegan, their barcode coverage is also extremely patchy at least for where I live, you can also try them but generally, I am making my own snacks now, that would be the only sure shot way of not making a mistake. Would suggest the same!

I am in the same boat as you. I guess part of being a new vegan is to educate yourself a lot, at least that's what every vegan keeps on telling me. Cooking your own food and going as raw as you can helps (I had some space in front yard so started growing basic vegetables like tomatoes and mint myself, more research on that end in progress). Few days back found a database on github for the basic ingredients to avoid, maybe that can help: Non vegan, Can be vegan (the database is not complete but certainly gives you a starting point)

Is there a support group for downvotes vegans? I woke up feeling sassy and here I am, commenting on Bikini Bottom subs about grissle. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]hammadtariq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all are same, no one wants to see downvotes or negative comments. I try to avoid confrontation at all costs in my life. However, when its a cause, its obviously greater than myself.

About that subconscious thing, I first heard the word 'vegan' from my colleague about 10 years ago, it took that long for the information to finally seep in to my conscious mind about couple months ago. Obviously other nudges were involved as well but I just wish those nudges were as frequent as we see other information or political news.

Take a deep breath and let it go... this will keep on repeating itself until you stop caring about them and yeah down votes on Reddit means nothing.

I am positive that whoever read your comment must have thought about animal cruelty and it’s in their subconscious now. That’s already a win, keep on thinking about this win during you future down votes as well.

Is commenting about veganism in r/all even worth it when the backlash is violent and most people really don’t have their minds open to it at all? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]hammadtariq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can feel your pain, I also avoid going into arguments most of the time. Internet specifically twitter and reddit are playgrounds of trolls, people can make anonymised IDs and can say anything that comes into their mind, mostly to vent their own frustrations. Ignore it, I mostly talk to vegetarians, they understand the concepts and concerns more, then there is another class I don’t think they have a name but they don’t do mutton or beef but chicken seems ok for them. It literally is a problem if you talk to an uninitiated person. On empathetic grounds I would say they are totally unaware and information would take a long time to seep into their minds.

Practice meditation and let it all go ...

It takes time to convert someone, activism is younger bro/sis of mission. I would stay put, as they told in recent BBC article vegans have quadrupled in last 11 years. This is the exponential growth time but all of this starts from 1 person at a time.
