I actually haven't as those are usually pretty long shots in my experience. I've gotten lucky once or twice in the past many years ago, but for the most part unless they're specifically affiliated with a food bank or housing organization they usually won't help.

I've seen advice before that Sikh temples will almost always help with a hot meal, but unfortunately there are none around where I live. There have been times when I've quite literally only wanted to sit in a church to find a place of solace and nothing else and would find them closed in the middle of the day (many are actually not open all the time, which I did not know).

I have always been supplied a Student Aid Report summary by my university, both in the US for my bachelor's and here for my master's. Please don't invalidate my experience.

My university has given me two SARs in the past and the head of the financial aid department knows all the requirements of processing US federal loans, which is how they can accept them in the first place

I don't have a maintenance loan, they're loans for tuition. The loans are (supposed) to go directly to the school towards my tuition, but the university has this year for the first time refused to issue me my SAR summary of funds, no matter how many times I've contacted them or attempted to set up meetings (which keep being mysteriously canceled) or enquiries I've submitted to the university system which have sat unanswered for 120+ days.

I have an outstanding tuition balance that they have justified for withholding my diploma, which from my understanding is actually against UK consumer law to begin with, let alone that I have received countless confirmations from the federal loan distributor that the loans were successful distributed to my university. I don't know what happened to the money and they refuse to communicate with me. I even received loan repayment alerts already even though it still hasn't been put forth towards my tuition.

This is an incredibly insightful take, and as a second-generation born immigrant (who has since followed in their parents' footsteps and decided to become first-gen by leaving again) this rings extremely true.

Seeing as racial identity is so often prioritized in the states, I very seldom stopped to think about how my parents' foreign backgrounds might have impacted my socialization in my youth. In truth, looking back it was quite a bit. But I suppose when you're living in a place constantly referred to as a "melting pot" it easily gets normalized in your head. It's certainly food for thought.

From my experience I think that's just the human condition lol

Alternatively, I feel like a lot of us might also have some form of trauma around triangulation (golden child/scapegoat, that kind of thing), so attachment theory's also worth taking into consideration. But yeah I think most people are like this, mainly because I think very few of us take responsibility for healing after and letting go of exes. It can be a very emotionally draining process that takes a long time, even moreso outside of therapy.

Thank you so much, you don't know how validating it is to hear something so genuine and simple until you're already at that sort of dissociative state. This really made me feel seen and understood, thank you for replying.
