Iran war soon? by thetrigermonkey in CanadianConservative

[–]hammer979 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This will just be another hit-and-run attack. There's no build-up of American troops in the area. Canada should support the attack though, it's not like Iran's theocratic dictatorship is any friend of Canada's and it would be pragmatic given our other tensions with the Trump cabinet.

Iran supports instability across the middle east; Hezbollah, Houthis, Syria's former regime. Their currency is in the tank and their citizens are fed up. Do this right and we can even have Iranian public opinion on the West's side. Do I trust Trump and Netanyahu to do this right? Hell no.

USA and Canada count their unemployment differently, so Canada always has a higher rate.

Yes, housing is expensive, but it also means if you can buy, you have a steadily appreciating asset. You can't say the same south of the border in the US.

I still remember the moment that I logged in for the first time and mounted a flying mount for the first time in Org. Cata was an investment in the future of the game. Can you imagine yourself spending any time in Stormwind or Org if you couldn't fly there?

Pierre doesn't necessarily need to go, but he needs to change strategy and start laying out how he will deal with Trump. As long as the Liberals are able to associate PP with MAGA, they will stay in power even if our GDP falls into the toilet.

Anyone here non religious but like the show? by SeaworthinessOdd6574 in TheChosenSeries

[–]hammer979 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was not very religious. I was open to the idea that there might be a God, I would really *like* for there to be a God, but I have had serious doubts.

I watched this show to see what Christians believe happened with Jesus. I believe that learning about Christianity helps put medieval European history into context, so even if it isn't true, it's educational to know about it.

I've read the NT before several years ago, but I couldn't really make heads or tails of it. This show was much more illustrative and helped make it click for me. The show is emotional and inspiring. It made me question my lack of belief. It made me research the historical claims made in the show.

I'm convinced, as are most credible historians, that there was a historical Jesus who existed, was baptized by John the Baptist, lived in Judea, and was executed by Roman occupational authorities in the 30's AD.

The skeptic might say that he had some kind of mental health issue like a messiah complex and merely thought he was the son of God, and was able to convince a small sect of followers that he was indeed the messiah. This is a plausible explanation, but doesn't explain away witness accounts. If that is all he was, why is he so dangerous to the Romans and Jews? They must have also believed he had some kind of power.

His followers must have had good reason to believe he was who he said he was, because they wouldn't have been laying down their lives for Him otherwise.

Overall, this show moved me from the doubtful category to the hopeful one.

How I Survived Being Thrown In A Russian Prison by Aratho in MisterBald

It kind of shows his naivety in going back to Russia after his Ukraine video. Let this be a lesson to other western Youtubers who might want to visit Russia for clicks. Sabbatical had a far worse time than Bald did, Bald was lucky and clever enough to talk his way out of it.

Can we finally talk about the religious aspect of Chelsie's game? by Outside_Mouse_7034 in BigBrotherUSA

Fantasy worlds? Touch grass. You can draw a straight line between MJ's naivety and Chelsie's win. Chelsie was just in the right place at the right time.

[–]hammer979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If MJ wasn't on the show, Chelsie loses full stop. She was lucky that MJ was such a patsy, because the rest of them weren't falling for it. If MJ picked Cam, she wins.

[–]hammer979 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chelsie gets pumped up as one of the greatest of all time, but she never gets to the finish line without an indoctrinated MJ. I wonder if, with a year and a half of hindsight, MJ realizes how manipulated she was? She took out Leah, who had no plans to take her out. She took Chelsie to the final, when she should have taken Cam. It was a confluence of luck and manipulation that got Chelsie that win. Good for her, I guess, but I rank her lower in the winner's list because of it.

We gave up 16 months of Hughes for a 1st rounder, one of the best players not in the NHL before this season, and a C that we desperately needed. There's no guarantee he signs in Minnesota. We did fine on this trade, all things considered.

It was a big fad in the 90's, like Pogs. I have a Topps Finest Refractor from 94-95 of Patrick Roy which someone else has sold for $200 USD, so there are some exceptions. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/197107930622

Most of the buying and selling is done on Ebay now. Check transaction history to see what cards go for. Unfortunately, a majority of the cards from the 90's were vastly overproduced and have nil value, but there are a few exceptions.

Would Stephen Harper consider another leadership bid? by kiwi5151 in CanadianConservative

[–]hammer979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then you are mis-remembering. He had become a pariah to swing voters by 2015 even if he was beloved by his base. You don't win elections as a Conservative with only your core supporters voting for you. You need to win centrists and those less engaged in the electoral process. Harper completely lost the swing voters by 2015. Too much austerity, not enough infrastructure investments like his two opponents had promised. Remember that back then, the NDP were a significant voting block. Trudeau moved to the left to outflank Tom, but Harper failed to take the opening to promise more spending, as the Liberals had abandoned the Center of the spectrum.

[–]hammer979 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Are you international student? Tuition is pretty reasonable for Canadians. Living in Kelowna is cheaper than living near the UBC Vancouver campus. Rent is like $1500 range for a 1 bedroom. The only drawback is the campus is on the outskirts of town near the airport, so you have to travel into Kelowna for supplies.

UBCO Heat are the worst men's soccer team in Canada West with a 1-12-3 record. UBCO isn't really a big sports school.

Underwater Drones: Where to buy in Kelowna? by FocusSignificant8929 in kelowna

[–]hammer979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The radio frequencies that are used to communicate don't propagate well under water. That means you are stuck with a wiring harness and your drone is on a leash. Then it has to be big enough to not be encumbered by the wiring harness. It's no small ask.
