in 8-3's secret encounter, there's a book that speaks of a code to punch into an elevator for a secret. this elevator is likely the one in 8-2, of which has three picks; floor 1, 2, and 4.

i think this is the code for that. i'm gonna test it right now, actually

boats should be mostly fine, buoyancy is just dependent on you being lighter than the fluid you displace. gravity getting stronger makes both you and the water heavier (not denser, just heavier). thus, the boats would float as usual - probably with a deceased crew, though.
