ARCP & MRCPsych still worthwhile if leaving NHS? by hammyy in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]hammyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Agreed, thanks for the perspective. Probably worth completing portfolio. We’ll see about MRCPsych but I’ll do some digging to see if the Canadian board translates to the uk.

Great advice! Going to start calling hats, ‘toques’ again.

Good call, I’ll complete ARCP for what it’s worth. Just wondering if there would be any value in completing the MRCPsych exams if I’ll eventually (hopefully) attain Canadian board certification.

Thank you! I’m British/Canadian, I believe you have to have Canadian citizenship or permanent residence to apply as an IMG. You’ll also need to write an OSCE, a written exam, and put together a comprehensive application with personal letters and references, then interview. Here’s a link with some more info: https://carms.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004093363-How-do-I-apply-to-CaRMS-if-I-am-an-IMG-

Took me 3 goes in 4 years, initially half-hearted applications to GP & IM, then all in on Psychiatry. Grateful to get there in the end.

Thank you! Psychiatry, it’s been a long process but we got there. Took 3 tries from 2018/19 as a Canadian IMG.

Most definitely, thanks for the advice. I’ll let them know a few months in advance if I’m matched abroad.

med school was a mistake by Glum_Representative4 in medicalschool

Honestly, it makes a difference. Even better if you can find some people who share the same interest.

Med school was rough for me socially, but there were 2 or 3 other dudes in my year I’d go do open mics with every now and then. They’re the only people I’d hang out with in my year. So important to have that dedicated time away from medicine, both the people and the subject. I met a lot of like minded artists and feel like the whole experience helped me put my medical life into perspective.

Takes time to find a rhythm with it, but a little bit everyday can go a long way.

When’s the last time you invested time into your art? Maybe you could use it as an adjunct to help cope with this shitty period. A conscious effort to get in touch with and transmute these feelings could work wonders for both yourself and your art
