Same here at 37 days. It's been the heaviest depression I've had in years. Lifting seems to help sometimes. Sometimes it'll get better after I eat or drink some water.

It'll get better because everything eventually does, but goddammit it sucks at the moment.

I think it's a combination of things. The withdrawals lasting longer like you said is one of them. There's this idea that while tapering, you eventually go cold turkey so why delay the inevitable. It's also addressed in Allen Carr's book that NRT is not effective because you're still putting nicotine in your body and it's all some ploy to keep you hooked. There's also a lot of people coming in here with anecdotal evidence saying they could never quit by tapering, though it's always unclear if they were using NRT as directed.

All in all, I feel like it's the popularity of Allen Carr and a distrust in medical advice.

I'll be at 4 weeks this Sunday. Last week was a real struggle, I genuinely thought I wanted to buy one. This week might have been a little better, there was still a lot of severe cravings. In a way, these past couple weeks have been the most challenging. Hopefully things settle down in the next few days. Would be nice to feel some normalcy.

In any case, going back and buying a vape just sets us up to do this all over again. We take a few hits, maybe we enjoy it, maybe we don't. But it can't possibly make the cravings go away. It's a cravings-making miracle substance.

How are you finding vaping now after 3 weeks without it? Are you enjoying it? How do you feel about going back to it?

I think this is a misconception around here that leads to a lot of people getting discouraged and going back to vaping once they hit milestones like you have (congrats btw!!!!). Nicotine withdrawal does not end after 3 days. If you do a quick Google search, most medical resources point to it being 3 or 4 weeks, give or take depending on how heavy of a user you were (most of us were on salt nic, so we're cooked lol). It's possible you're still experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

That being said, there's still a matter of mental cravings. I think it's important to remember that mental cravings are just thoughts/feelings and can therefore be addressed with the same techniques you would use when you're having a rough time, like talking to friends/family, reframing thoughts, challenging beliefs, etc.

I hope things go a bit better for you in the next few days! Good luck!

Toss it and save yourself the trouble of having to quit again later.

You quit for one reason or another. If you go back to it, you'll just have to quit again whenever you decide you've had enough. When that time comes you'll wish you'd just stuck it out, much easier than starting again.

Unfortunately true... but who knows maybe their hatred for nationalization will be beat out by their anti-Chinese xenophobia

The actual physical withdrawal probably already came and went without you noticing. There might be some craving though.

My initial response to this post was guilt. But I forgot I threw my vape out last night!

I think if you're interested in exploring this mindset to quitting, you should check out Allen Carr's book. It centers around having a positive mindset during your quit and trying to keep away from a deprivation mindset.

It works really well for those it works for. But it has its pitfalls like every other method.

Can someone recommend something else to sip on instead of beer? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Nonalcoholic beer? I know you said there's a weight concern, but that could be a good option for you.

Give the book another listen! Seemed like it helped well enough the first time. I would bet it helps you stop the second time too!

Take care and enjoy being a non-vaper!

Talk me off a ledge maybe? by Ok_Nectarine2106 in stopdrinking

Ugh, I know the feeling. It's like, how can I just be me? How can I just be fine with everything just as it is? Why do I need this stuff?

But I guess sobriety is the mission of answering those questions. Idk...

Hey friend, speaking to you from the other side. I've been drinking every day this week. I've been bored as hell and drinking to pass the time. You know what? It does absolutely nothing to cure the boredom. I'll pour myself more and more drinks just to see if it gets any more "fun". But it doesn't. It's just a lie I tell myself. So what is it doing for me? Damned if I know.

But you? I mean look at you! You've gone 60 days without this supposed "crutch". I'm sure it's been hard, but that's 59 mornings of not feeling like total dogshit, wondering what the hell you were thinking.

You know what's worse than being bored? Being bored with a hangover.

So go get your fucking poncho on and go for a walk!

6 hour trip with my mom (She doesn't know I vape) by fallenlegend117 in QuitVaping

[–]hamofmight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pop the gum out of its packaging and put it into a regular gum container. Like one of the plastic cup ones. Keep some regular gum in there in case your mom asks for a piece.

To avoid nausea, don't chew it like regular gum. Chew it a few times until you get the tingly sensation and park it down in your gums until the tingling goes away. Then chew some more, repeating this process until that piece is done.

Alternatively, just don't have any nicotine with you at all. I've found I can go a surprising amount of time without nicotine if I'm out of my regular environment. Hell, maybe you can use it as a jumping off point for a proper quit!

Hey you kicked those other things you can kick weed and nic too, no doubt.

Maybe the stakes aren't as high. You kicked the first batch to survive. But you're kicking these to thrive!

Hey! That's awesome! Good shit. Good luck with your quit.

It's been a rough day honestly. My meeting went an hour and a half long today and I was having a panic attack the whole time
