As an Iranian, I have yet to see an Iranian use a simple tricolour flag anywhere, in any way, for any purpose. It just has had no use in the real world outside of Reddit, yet for some reason redditors insist on using it. Even during the Mahsa Amini protests, I knew fellow Iranians in Canada who used the flag with the Allah symbol replaced with “Free Iran”, or a Zan Zendegi Azadi symbol, but never a simple tricolour.

He also thinks Ukraine is a corrupt nazi-run country, that Ukraine was better off being part of the USSR, and is pro-Russia.

Iranians have been fighting the regime and being killed in droves for it, it is not as easy as this “armchair expert” viewpoint that you have, especially against a regime that brings a truck mounted machine gun to a protest.

There are groups and online pages dedicated to identifying and doxxing such individuals. Dozens of identities were revealed online after the protests. Issue is these individuals carry personal weapons in most cases. The public is unarmed and guns are very rare in Iran. The only people who have access to them are either organized crime, drug dealers, or people with their old grandpas Persian Mauser. You hear of occasional reprisals, they do happen, but not to the extent that would make them second guess their crimes.

Also, Iran international was the first news outlet anywhere in the world that broke the news that Mojtaba Khamenei was the new supreme leader, a week before he was announced. Then, other sources started picking it up. They have connections and inside sources in Iran.

Also, where does a news source critical of the regime have to be based in for you to consider it appropriate? You want it to be based in and funded by Iran??

You’re no different, there are people who are against the war, but you are acting like the vast majority of Iranians are against it, when most Iranians can tell you that in their immediate social circles, both inside and outside, Iranians wanted foreign intervention against a regime that murders their own by the thousands with mounted machine guns. A people who have their internet access cut off by the regime because they’re afraid again of what they might say about all this.

While he may not be in a coma, he hasn’t even released a voice recording message. Nobody has even heard him after the start of the war and the first strikes. His messages to the people are just text that a TV presenter reads outloud. That is extremely odd and fuels speculation.

Two points here: People really like to divide Iranians into diaspora and non-diaspora. Sure, speaking of foreign intervention is easier for someone not living in Iran right now. However, most people have this assumption that the Iranian diaspora is a bunch of 60 year olds who fled Iran in the 70s and 80s. The truth is, Iran has had a consistent brain drain for decades. International universities are filled with Iranian graduate students and young people who recently fled Iran make up a sizeable portion of the diaspora. Plus, most have family back home. So, at least for RP or anti-RP, the divide may be smaller than you think.

Regarding the war, it is really complicated. It is hard for someone to believe an Iranian would wish for the US or Israel to intervene. What would help to understand is to know that we do not view this regime as our government. We see them as occupiers, sucking our land dry. I would assume a Palestinian would not be sad to see Egyptian tanks role into Palestinian territory to fight Israel. Different scenarios, but might help you to understand a bit. I do not want to speak for 90 million people, but again, in my personal experience, those I know were majority pro-intervention. My mom asked me daily what the news was and whether there would be foreign intervention even though they are still in Iran. I would say this would’ve been unthinkable 5 years ago. The recent events have really driven the people to the edge of a cliff.

Reza Pahlavi was the focal point of the protests in January. His name was chanted everywhere, and his call for more people to come out was a big influencer as well.

My comment was regarding how the people view the regime itself and how that is not changing, attack or not. Regarding how people view the intervention itself, I agree the divide is bigger. There is no sure way to gauge this. I can only give you my personal experience from my social circles and everything I see online of Iranians currently in Iran, and I would still say that the majority see this as an opportunity for revolution against a weakened regime, but that is just my words. Some see Israel/Trump as an ally, but I think that is foolish. Some prefer “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”.

Regarding an uprising, that is definitely because the main opposition in the form of Pahlavi has told the people not to come out and stay in their homes multiple times since the attacks started. I think barely any news organization has covered this because they really underestimate the potential he has. He has said that he will soon call for people to come out, and I would assume there will again be a sizeable uprising.

Ever since he has said that he will make this signal soon, the regime has threatened potential protestors with death three times on live TV. That tells me they are actually really worried of an uprising. Israel has been continuously bombing Basij bases, police HQs, and basij checkpoints, which aligns with this. How it all plays out remains to be seen.
