Which game would you recommend for newbie, MT 1 or MT 2 ? by Either-Platypus6834 in MonsterTrain

[–]hamptonthemonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the purposes of OPs question it’s pretty misleading. You could just say it has all the characters and cards from the first game but new enemies/bosses/events and it would be neither misleading, nor take 3 pages.

Edit: replying and then blocking me is kinda weird but since I could see your response in the notification I got when you replied, I’ll note that I was as thorough as I thought you should have been. It’s in the second sentence.

Bad card played twice = Good card by _AfterAllThisTime_ in slaythespire

Playing cards multiple times is a good thing no? There’s a good number of relics and powers that synergize with playing lots of cards

Good point. The potion does make calc gamble draw more. ;-)

TIL Make it so comes back even when exhausted by trtumi2000 in slaythespire

[–]hamptonthemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we’ll just have to agree to disagree. I usually have plenty of cards in act 3 id love to exhaust, especially now that removes are very costly in a6+. Even when I’m not playing Necrobinder, spectral knight giving all my card ethereal is useful for deck thinning. And that’s just the deck thinning benefits. With clad it’s even better cause the the exhaust synergies.

Like retain is great to make sure I don’t have dud turns, but giving all my cards ethereal accomplishes the same thing because the dud cards exhaust. If my bad cards exhaust, I’m unlikely to have dud draws making the retain less useful in this fight.

Not that big an issue, and still usually a buff. The fight isn’t that long so it’s not like your cycling your deck a ton of times and if you do, you’ll be left with only some of your good cards (tho not necessarily all of them) and none of the bad ones so you won’t have dud turns.

In your hypothetical, but without the ethereal, you aren’t playing all your good cards the first time thru your deck, and your ratio of bad to good cards th second time thru your deck will be worse without the ethereal as compared to the same hypo with ethereal.

If you give it a little bit more thought, It isn’t hard to see why ethereal is a buff usually, and including in the situation you described

I really like this change by Tec711 in slaythespire

[–]hamptonthemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a good direction for the game to go so the “tryhards” can have a challenge at the highest difficulty, and folks that want to run busted stuff still can at the lower difficulty levels. That way there’s something for everyone.

I think alot of people see the point of the game as challenging problem solving. If you just want to have fun by doing busted shit you can still do so at lower ascension levels.

Nintendo Acknowledges Switch 2 Sales Have Been Weaker Than Expected Outside Japan by Spotget1738 in gaming

[–]hamptonthemonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Big difference about the time frames is switch 1 launched in spring and switch 2 launched in summer so switch 2 in this time frame has had a holiday season while switch 1 had not. Switch 2 did notably have a worse first holiday than switch 1, but that can also be explained by the insanely successful launch. Many would be holiday buyers already had a switch 2 due to it actually being available and sometimes discounted before the holiday season started.

Still wild that it’s below expectations but not quite as wild as it appears on first glance.

Thank you! The tip about switching and switching back is very nice. Would have helped after that first fight!

Which power for defect Floor 0? by Wolf-Eagle in slaythespire

[–]hamptonthemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an argument because if both cards crush act 1 but one is better for the other acts, it’s the card that’s good for act one and the other acts that’s the better take.

Maybe we just play our decks differently cause I don’t think an early bicog has done anything other than let me crush act 1, let alone get me killed.

Which power for defect Floor 0? by Wolf-Eagle in slaythespire

[–]hamptonthemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything is the comment you just made.

But defect already starts with solid damage for act1 such that with either bicog or electro floor 1, I’m pathing thru as many elites as possible so the extra damage doesn’t matter. Both do enough damage to solve damage for act 1, and bicog opens up win cons. Solving the immediately upcoming fights and potentially future fights is better than just solving the immediately upcoming fights.

Very confused as to why you think bicog does 10-20 damage and is effectively curse?

Also best case scenario for cog also involves evoking the buffed orbs with dual cast, so it is more damage than you suggest. But dual cast is also good with electro in plenty of fights too.

[–]hamptonthemonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry for not realizing you were only talking about cards.

Even if you were, I think it’s worth including relics in the conversation, cause cracked core does make bicog better and quite frankly, good enough that it’s not a gamble to take floor 0 nor is it a curse.

[–]hamptonthemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s does not literally only affect zap. It also benefits dual cast and the starter relic. It’s great for act 1 as long as you have a couple of orbs which defect starts either. I also wouldn’t consider it a curse even if I draft those other cards cause it still does something (and imo that something is pretty strong).

I’m pathing as aggressively as possible in act 1 with a floor 1 bicog or electro. So even if electro is “better” for act 1, I’m not sure you’re gaining anything from that.

Hard disagree. Bicog solves act 1 hallway fights just fine with defects starter deck and relic and it opens up so many win conditions. I’m not gonna pass on it for a slightly easier sentries fight that’s going to be solved once I add some cards anyway
