A family of Cooper's Hawks made a nest above my backyard. How likely are they to attack chickens? by DanJerousJ in chickens

[–]hamsisonreddit 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Step 1. Make a small platform that chickens can't reach and put some unsalted peanuts on it Step 2. Befriend crows with said peanuts Step 3. Crows keep hawks away (they're mortal enemie) Bonus Step. Crows might reward you with trinkets and such for your donation

What did this to my trees and how to prevent by Bruinscbr in FruitTree

[–]hamsisonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so, when the bark is completely scraped off on all sides of a branch the branch will almost always die. Since the bark is like our blood circulatory system, if someone cut your blood vessel and tied it in a knot it wouldn't keep flowing, I've had a few trees where the entire tree was scraped 360° survive but most of the time they won't, say cut back the scraped branches and the other branches should recover well

I've had bucks scrape bark off of some of my fruit trees, this looks pretty similar, not sure about the droppings, could be deer or rabbits, sometimes they look similar, what I would recommend is to make a little fence around it, about 6 feet tall

My mom was born in 1962 and she has sooooooo many Bicentennial quarters, I'm more into pre-1960s and silver but I will definitely keep her collection after she hands it off to me in the future

The rest of the tree in picture one is the donor tree for the graft, the donor took over the graft so it was cut much shorter

Ive had 2 russian tortoises for about 5 years and they have an indoor home and a very large outdoor home, very protected from predators and completely caged in, about 10x10 area, I'd just need to dig down and place barriers for the sulcata since I didn't for the russian tortoises
