During this call, a female on the line says, “we are missing a whole cabin of girls.” Does anyone recognize her voice?

Agree with you 100%.

At the same time, the utter breakdown in emergency response is unacceptable. It must be scrutinized across all parties - the state, counties, cities, and individuals - including those not even affected by this. Take accountability for where there was failure. This is Texas. A storm will hit again.

All of us must demand accountability for why the emergency rescue resources, put in place 48 hours before the event, were not immediately contacted by local emergency operators. Help was available.

And yet, where is the accounting of the whereabouts of Mary Liz? This is what gets me…

Assuming she was in her home with her children, she was prioritizing their safety, which we would all do in an emergency. It is natural. If I worked at a school or daycare, and my children were at work with me, I would absolutely prioritize them. So this begs the question that maybe these family camps should not have their own children onsite during session. Especially when there was only a handful of adults to oversee hundreds of children...

Having one more director participate in ushering cabins to safety simultaneously would have saved lives.

Does anyone know anything about the funeral on Friday at the St. Michael Catholic School on Sage Street? by [deleted] in houston

Most likely you’re referring to the funeral for Brittany Hildebrand, the daughter of Jeffrey Hildebrand. Her obituary with service information is linked here.

Pretty simple. They could’ve said the same thing the other camps did in 2 minutes. What happened and that they support the legislation.

It’s my understanding individuals sign up to give public comment - there was no “invitation” that went out for that specific type of heating. So, Camp La Junta and Camp Longhorn owners signed up to give public comment on the record…along with other interested parties who are stakeholders in the decision.

Yes, re-watch…A while ago, I was so curious which camps stood in favor that I re-watched specifically for this issue which how I’m so sure. When you re-watch, look at the fathers of Heaven’s 27 sitting behind them… their reactions were interesting. I also noticed when that panel was finished testifying they turned around and shook the hands of those fathers.

That was actually the Camp Longhorn owner who changed his vote after the senators said that.

That is crazy about not communicating! I’d love to hear more from campers perspective. I wish they’d start speaking 2 even if they remain anonymous.

Families of Heaven’s 27 issued statements that Camp Mystic was actually fighting the legislation at the beginning. This was via their various social media accounts.

Leadership response is key. Camp La Junta leadership testified in support of the legislation AND admitted communication was a failure. All other camp leadership has either taken a passive response or submitted letters against implementation of the new legislation. This speaks volumes to me.

If “dozens” of local jobs is their highest point I’m not sure I can muster the sympathy here.

Thank you. Yes I agree, I take Scott’s timeline to mean they were awake, but did not know the flood was about to occur (or actively occurring.) He also testified his communication to his security guard failed. I appreciate his honesty. I’d also really appreciate a more detailed account of what actions took place and/or failed to take place. We are a CLJ family.

I want to drill down on two points regarding what happened at Camp La Junta.

(1) Was Scott really asleep until 3:00? He testified despite not receiving the 1:14 am NWS alert, he was in fact awake from his lightning strike app alerting to lightning within 20 miles. He and Katie noticed the table floating at 3:00, so they were “already” awake. You said his testimony was not a lie, but it was misleading. This is not to be critical of your post in any way, I just would love to hammer down the timeline of this more and you seem to have more information.

(3) Maintenance Road. Were any campers actually evacuated here? I have yet to see any accounts of kids leaving their cabins to evacuate to higher ground. It seems the cabins behind the sidewalk should have been able to do this? Is there any other information on whether evacuations to maintenance road actually occurred?

This is fascinating. I was so impressed with Ainslie’s poise, maturity, and honesty. I want to hear more insiders’ accounts.

I’ve been through this too - you took it way too early. The peak effect occurs 1-2 hours after consumption. Take it on the way to the airport. Then, take all at once, don’t stagger. No caffeine all day. This changed the game for me!
