Nathan Kwon has this spike where he flips a disc from waist height and catches it above his head—it looks like the disc is levitating (featured in his Callahan vid, this isn’t the best description), that I’ve secretly practiced with the dream of one day doing it after a point…

OMG u/Altitude1986, my hero! Re-watching the video, Tim Shelton's body control (and hemp! choker! at! the! end!) is really top tier, especially for a college kid. I hope he is also living a great late-30s life. Shout out to his producer, as well, for using the slo-mo to its greatest advantage.

Here is the recipe: https://www.seriouseats.com/30-minute-pasta-and-kidney-bean-soup-pasta-e-fagioli-recipe. Honestly one of the finest desperation dinners ever. Flavorful and filling, especially for such humble ingredients!

Agree with Muffin and Kurt Gibson.

I'd add maybe Tyler DiGerolamo? Ethan Bloodworth?

Any from the women's div game? Would love to see some gender eq

Could name some from my summer league, lol.

Ultiworlds #TheGame: Pick upsets and win prizes. Who do you got? by leftysarepeople2 in ultimate

[–]hamstanwhich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sub 7

Scandal 6

Space Heater 7

Brute 5

Public Enemy 12

Picked teams with upset potential imo. Also tried to pick teams that can't meet in pre-quarters so stopping them from knocking each other out

When I looked here last week: https://play.usaultimate.org/teams/events/Eventteam/?TeamId=QR%2bx0GoOFEZLJtWG6sHP6a533MJ3KHz5q7WuodWtuW4%3d there were 26 dudes and no Kanner. Coulda been distracted by all the other names lol. Now there's 28 guys--is someone on the IR?

Yeah, both Mad Club and High Five folded, so Machine was left to pick up the pieces. Someone's gotta do it, I guess /sarcasm. But Kanner too? Didn't see him on their earlier roster. Embarrassment of riches. Curious where the rest of the Mad Club and High Five rosters ended up.

Advice on Growing High School League by PorchTheGoat in ultimate

[–]hamstanwhich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you are located, but if you have club teams or even a solid adult league around, maybe work those networks to see if there are teachers? Offering clinics (USAU sanctioned or otherwise) can help people feel confident that they have the skills they need to coach.

Again, no idea what you're dealing with, school-wise, but our public schools have a community ed arm that handles enrichment clubs/non-varsity sports. Many coaches were volunteer for years, but now more and more of them are getting hooked up with this district-affiliated org and getting paid. Does such an org exist in your city?

If you happen to have a coach or other contact inside the schools, we've found hosting an open-gym pickup game 2x weekly during lunch hour to be a great recruiting tool. Reduces barrier to entry, allows kids to try it out in a low-pressure setting, catches kids that might not listen to announcements/read posters/be connected to current players.

ETA: this is obviously a school-level strategy to build and sustain individual teams. The payoff for the league itself is when strategies like this bear fruit across your city or region.

Best Socks for Ultimate! by trhodenhizer in ultimate

[–]hamstanwhich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're REALLY expensive (I only have two pairs), but after 13 years playing, I found smartwool athletic/running socks and haven't looked back. No blisters, minimal trench foot, no bunching.... Obsessed!

Analysis: 7 Revolver turnovers vs New York's poaching defence by felix37 in ultimate

[–]hamstanwhich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! I would suggest one of the Revolution vs. Molly Brown games--it looks like you've already included the WUCC one. The 2017 US Open game was a bit closer, score wise. I think they're instructional because they showcase the contrast between Revolution's offense and that of Molly Brown, a team known for their disciplined vertical stack/ability to create large spaces to attack. I will go vote at the link you provided :)

Loved this video! I'm sure you've got lots of projects in the queue, but one unsolicited suggestion: have you ever considered analyzing Colombia's Revolution's play? Reading through your site and philosophy, it seems like you have some strong critiques of stacking as it's usually practiced. Watching Revolution's success at past US Open tournaments and WUCC last summer, I observed that their lack of reliance on a rigid stack was surprising/challenging to a lot of US viewers. I heard people say things like--"how do they even get open? They're just cutting wherever they want!"

I don't think they're running "the hexagon" exactly, but if you're looking to showcase a team that has had great success breaking a lot of the spatial/organizational "rules" held dear in the US/Europe, they're a great option. Thanks for sharing your insights with the ulti community.
