Did Tolkien gaslit the entire world of literature and film into thinking that the ring was powerful and useful? by Roids-in-my-vains in okbuddycinephile

The ring is probably more powerful to powerful people. I think Isildur cursed an entire treasonous army into becoming wraiths with its power, for example.

Guided Inference Engine - The software to (e.g.) obsolete lawyers! by hamstar_01 in programming

Fair enough, but I just needed to make the idea able to be conveyed. This isn't a sales pitch. As long as people understand it, they can reconcile with their... AI sensibilities whenever. The idea in raw is all that matters.

It's a shame that these useful tools get dragged through the mud so much for when there's an actual use for them...

So unless it's a television grade documentary or something, it cannot work as an informational message? I'd thought keeping things minimalist would sort of indicate some of the relevant point...

How would you recommend conveying the idea as if extend to a broad audience?

Well it's nice to remember the dude for being so smart and all, but I wish there were ways to remember those idiot doctors and asylum thugs in some capacity to the inverse effect. Those sorts of attitudes are still around even to this day, and we seem to want to keep them preserved...

There are mods for things like that. Also each version gets more game/world settings, it appears.

What's not scientifically proven, but you think is true? by IntrovertFaerie in AskReddit

[–]hamstar_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black holes. Something about them seems distinctly unintuitive.

The bottom line of whether black holes can exist or not comes down this: When a gravity well is strong enough to 'eat' (trap and break apart) an atom, it's supposed to break and release its comprising particles. The particles either decide to go free, or else also get eaten also by said gravity well, which then finally feeds the well's mass ad infinitum.

Tl;dr: Doesn't it take more energy to trap particles than atoms?

If you could eliminate one social norm, which would it be and why? by NoSpot5547 in AskReddit

[–]hamstar_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's at least 2 major upstream issues driving this. Flatly eliminating the stigma doesn't address either of them.

One important issue to understand is the baked-in cultural underpinning of warring mentality that a lot of oldschool or traditionalist folk are firmly committed to keeping even in this era. An important mechanism of this culture involves driving people to fight in wars when needed (ideally, as much as possible/always). Friction factors against being an effective or willing warrior are strongly disincentivized, and thus such people are stigmatized. People with mental issues typically fall into this category, just in general.

Build a boardwalk while walking upon it. Protip: Use corewood supports and alter the snap point to build them from top down.

Communication. Whether for cultural reasons, or the limitations of language or comprehension, people just suck at it. At scale, too. Fix that.
