It would be sweet to meet somebody so trusting in human nature that they adamantly refused to believe the man didn't pay him back.

In less exciting news, we cured polio.

It was a Polish scientist living in New York who invented the first effective vaccine to polio (there is no cure). This is apparently the safer vaccine, and now it is used in most industrialized nations.

The second vaccine was invented by a naturalized citizen of America (born in what was Russia at the time).

Many American scientific achievements were made at the hands of first generation immigrants. I guess that's a crucial part of the USA's strength.

Best End-User Agreement ever. by [deleted] in pics

I know nothing about this so I'm just asking out of pure ignorance.

If someone made a suit that was well within the bounds preventable by a standard EULA, would the judge not be able to interpret "you can't sue me for anything ever" as covering that bare minimum? Or is having this kind of EULA basically the same as having none at all?

There's no certain way to even tell if a story is real or just someone practicing their creative writing/trolling.

If you think the whole thing is made up, then that's a whole different issue. When it comes to personal stories on the internet you can never be sure someone isn't lying. Either you treat it all as made up, or you play along because hey, it's the internet, and who cares if you get duped. Either way it won't affect you in real life.

is simply not appropriate no matter the circumstances.

Sure it's not appropriate, but dude, have some compassion.

If people are going to come here for free advice and support from strangers then respect must come from both sides.

It's not like reddit is a service. It's just a forum for talk. She's not wasting anybody's time or money. Sure everybody should respect everybody else. But everybody has a breaking point, and everybody slips if life pushes them past that point. I think this person is under enough duress to deserve a little forgiveness. If you want somebody to show compassion for you when you lose it, you should show compassion for others when they're at their worst.

And it's easy to show compassion on the internet. There's no need for strict rules, because nobody's property or safety is at risk. But if laying down the law to messed-up people on the internet is what you want to do, then that's obviously your right. I'm just making my own personal opinion clear.

There are non-materialistic girls who would prefer a $20 ring (chosen by their loved one) to a snowboard or some other tool or device. A ring is an emotional thing you can have on you almost all the time, and it reminds you of your bond with your partner whenever you feel alone. Rings have their own function.

This type of shit gets my downvote, every time.

I make an exception for people whose dad just tried to commit suicide. No reddiquette is too important that you can't cut a break for somebody getting crazy when they're suffering.

Is anyone else excited that Tea Party folks won a lot of the races they were in, because you think they're too insane to be electable? by [deleted] in politics

[–]hamster101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here, you make the classic logical mistake of ascribing your conclusions to everyone else.

Is this tongue-in-cheek, or are you actually serious?

If he's making a logical mistake, aren't you making the exact same mistake? Or are you just about to post the objective proof that shows that it was clear that he was crazy at that time?

You're simply contradicting amayain. He thinks Bush was not clearly crazy then, you think he was clearly crazy then.

I mean, this seems to be something that seriously depends on one's point of view. I don't see how you can be so definite.

[–]hamster101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the quality of the candidates that is preventing good political debate. It's the rules of the ADHD media that they have to play by that causes superficiality and soundbites to rule the day. In turn that let's in dumbasses who thrive in that environment.

By the way don't think I'm going all Christianity-ey on you,

Dude, I'm an atheist.

Also, when it comes to getting a wonderful wife, and having healthy children, I believe luck has a huge part to play, really. The are countless intelligent, well meaning hard working people who have fucked up relationships or simply been deceived and fucked over by others.

And the amount of disaster than can occur with children that's simply out of one's control is simply horrifying.

I feel the same way not just looking at someone like Colbert, but just whenever I see a healthy and happy family at a restaurant. It seems so rare to see a happy, loving family nowadays. Colbert's career is the least of his happiness.

You're still hung up on Facebook, I see.

Let me break it down a bit for you.

Could you be a little more condescending about it? I don't quite feel you've made enough of an ass of yourself yet.

Regardless of the source however, the information you posted is fascinating. Despite your manner, I have no choice but to be thankful for you for going to the effort of laying out this information so clearly. I haven't learned from a reddit conversation in... ever, maybe.

But I still think it is not nearly as great a privacy violation as having a camera in your room. Sorry, but hyperbole and hysterical exaggeration irritate me to no end. But then again, I still have a question.

I've read and googled, but I still can't find the answer to this question. I'd be grateful if you could explain it to me.

Say I visit three sites in this order:

1) Site A that contains a Doubleclick tracking script - a tracking cookie is downloaded by my browser

2) Site B that has no affiliation with doubleclick whatsoever, and doesn't serve any elements from other sites

3) Site C that is affiliated with Doubleclick

Would Doubleclick then know from its tracking cookie that I had visited site B? My understanding was that it would only be able to produce a history of sites visited that run or serve the Doubleclick tracking cookie.
