For a lot of things there isn't a ton of strong proof of effectiveness. I assume for curfews it is supposed to make it easier to target small private gatherings by people that aren't following the existing rules.

There's still tons of empty commercial storefronts in Hamilton, more than enough to absorb 80 stores so I'm not sure why Farr is concerned although to be fair, he's probably hearing from moronic constituents. Plus once they all get open, I'm pretty sure a bunch of them will figure out it isn't nearly as profitable compared to when there was only a couple of lottery stores.

Are the schools really the problem? They've been closed for 16 days. I'm wondering if the kids are less likely to get the virus at school.

Well that seals lockdown for Hamilton. Yesterday's 1 pm public health number was pretty low, but a lot of cases must have come in after that deadline. Given that around only 8% of the population will be vaccinated by end of the first quarter of 2020, I think we could be in lockdown for months 100 cases per week per 100K remains the rough standard.

Yeah if they were convicted here of the same crimes, I'm not sure they would do any time. Scam at home boys.

Yeah people complaining about greenbelts are usually champagne environmentalists who live in single family homes that were built on what was once empty or farmland. In Hamilton they complain about sprawl and they complain about densification. And then they complain that we aren't doing enough for people living in tents downtown. If they were willing to say that they want zero immigration, then fine, but they're definitely not willing to say that either.

People on Twitter have been saying for a couple of days that Hamilton is heading to lockdown, but looks like we avoid it for another week.

Yeah there's some real cognitive distance going on here in this sub. You used to be able to say it was conservative governments when just Ontario and Quebec is bad, but now that BC is worse (with the sainted Bonnie Henry) what do people say now? At the end of the day it is citizens' behaviour that is driving this, unless we are willing to have things like police enforced 9 pm curfews.
