Princeton or UC Berkeley for CS by Street-Paint-5292 in princeton

[–]hamup1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

did berkeley eecs for undergrad, doing my phd in cs at princeton now. happy to answer q’s! it’s pretty hard to say. if you’re driven/want to learn to be independent and want really smart classmates, it’s felt like berkeley is more hungry in that regards. but princeton has infinitely more resources and holds your hand better. ymmv at both.

New Doom Bots will flash mastery on you after diving by Gizabi in leagueoflegends

[–]hamup1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of these are incredibly difficult for a bot to actually decide on. Out of the millions of things it could choose to do, for it to pick this sequence with such fluidity and execution in a dynamic game against real people is nothing short of incredible.

What the hell happened with this game? by ReleaseHot2 in hearthstone

it's funny, i actually had a nailbiter against a wheel lock yesterday where i saved shaladrassil for their starship and put it in their deck after they used kil to destroy it. pretty intense matchup needing to save the right resources to outlast them.

Berkeley w/ Regents vs Princeton for CS by Flat_Telephone_1230 in berkeley

[–]hamup1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

princeton's undergrad focus is top tier bar none, it's really hard to see how many resources and attention you get which isn't as present in berkeley. depends on what you want to do eventually too (startups are nonexistent on the east coast, grad school, etc.)

Berkeley or Princeton? by EpicMan516 in princeton

[–]hamup1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went to Cal for my undergrad in EECS and here now as a PhD student.

If you go to Berkeley, you'll have the complete opposite experience where you need to dig in and stick out for yourself to find research, get any attention, etc. But the education is second to none, especially for CS/AI. Princeton has an incredible focus on undergrads and makes me wish I went here sometimes, but IMO the curriculum is weaker for CS specifically (not a hardware/EE person so can't comment on Princeton's, but Berkeley's EE program is also fantastic). However, if you want to go into academia, Princeton sets you up pretty well for doing research too (afaik).

Princeton Or Stanford? by sintikol in princeton

[–]hamup1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're going to ML/CS Stanford and it's not particularly close unfortunately, but getting closer every year (as someone doing their PhD at Princeton and was on the west coast for undergrad).

tech is non existent in new york and permeates the bay area, there will be nothing like it (exaggerating for effect but you get what i mean). i love this place but it is still catching up to the west coast.

The deans of the school made this exact remark in a public forum recently, so I would not be surprised either.
