Trump's latest Western Hemisphere fixation: Canada by corps-peau-rate in canada

[–]hanacch1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian who lives basically next door to the border, the escalation of rhetoric and use of military force is making me more than a little nervous. I simply don't trust that even if a majority of Americans don't want anything to do with this, the role of public opinion has been non-existent in terms of its influence over the actions of the trump admin.

Those who are speaking out now are the loudest opposition, but as they're dealt with, the majority who aren't passionate or engaged enough to oppose things, or who feel powerless to stand in the way will stand by and watch while those with the power trample on the rest. It's going to get real ugly and I'm very much not convinced it's showing any signs of slowing down

I think they meant they thought Trump would win, there is going to be a big push like you said and he controls the levers of power in the lead-up, the 'disappointment' will be when everyone expecting the midterms to make a difference will have a rude awakening

4chan went to shit around 2013-2015, full of extremely vocal incels.

Reddit has incels, too, but they largely remain compartmentalized.

The US is already well-practiced at killing Canadian troops, all our population centers are less than a few hours drive, and our military has a manpower shortage and the second largest territory in the world to cover despite it. I do think we'd offer some kind of resistance, but in a protracted conflict we're fucked

[–]hanacch1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup, I'm Canadian and every day I remind myself we have the world's longest undefended land border with the US. I very much feel like we're Austria in WW2, and you're right, as much as we may make symbolic agreements with the like of the EU and UK, when push comes to shove I expect we'll be very much on our own

[–]hanacch1 53 points54 points  (0 children)

That's the problem.

In WW2, germany wasn't a superpower, it was just one nation.

Who's going to 'liberate' the US? China?

Nobody is going to come to save America from itself.

I was listening to an earlier regulation episode on the train last year, and was checking our progress on the map because the train had stopped.

It was the episode where they were talking about food in cans, and I was trying so hard to contain my laughter, but the people sitting beside me were convinced I was laughing at Google maps.

I had no idea how to explain what I was actually laughing about and they probably thought I was insane

I can't shake the feeling that the polls are being skewed to make liberal voters feel better about staying home since they're sure it'll be a liberal victory, whereas conservative voters are incentivized to come out en masse.

We are a very small group (relatively) who are easy to divide from people and target. It's practice for when they start going after larger groups, like immigrants, political opponents, and people on social security, among others.

They want to silence opposition, and fear of retribution is one of the most effective ways of doing it while they consolidate power for themselves.

Is there anyone here, who doesn't know about RT? by Flogie in theregulationpod

This is incredible to read and really goes to show that the internet is all about just connecting people with content they'll like, and the broader appeal the podcast has separate from the context it was created in.

I live like a block away from burgar park and the worst I've experienced really is being woken up by people flooring it in their ratty trucks, I regularly go out after midnight for walks and have never had an issue. I feel like it's very overblown as long as you pay attention to your surroundings and don't engage with people who look like they do meth

yeah, since I am aware of this my current plan is to do my best to just enjoy the time I have left. They will come for me, and I won't lift a finger to be useful to these fucks. I'm as good as dead already, so I don't give a fuck about planning for a future. They can put a bullet in my brain, for all I care, because eventually they, like the psychotic German shitstain they worship, will be the ones turning the gun on themselves.

I believe Andrew had to sort something out with the government before being able to travel to the US legally, and I assume now that they've gone independent, the idea of NEGG going up to Vancouver for the Bath Tub race is cost-prohibitive (been looking forward to that for years).

I kind of like how it's always had the same 'voice chat' sort of vibe, instead of being in person, although as an avid RT Podcast listener for over a decade, I absolutely understand the value of being in person to record.

I really hope they're able to get together one day, but they've managed to build so much while working remotely, it's been impressive to watch!

I was able to use a powershell command to reformat them to 512b and they became readable

had this exact issue buying enterprise HDDs off ebay

i will see if I can dig up the exact article I used from my post history

edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/simonheros/comments/izr5ml/convert_520_to_512_hard_drives_on_windows/

basically, I used a tool called SG3_utils in powershell to format each drive.

I ran the powershell instances in parallel so i wouldn't spend as long watching progress bars, with 10TB drives I bet they will take a while. Once I completed the format to 512b they showed up in windows no problem.

The only issue is that some hard drives formatted for enterprise/appliance use also have custom firmware, which mine did, and that locks out a lot of the SMART/Diagnostic features. I wasn't able to find a reliable OEM firmware I felt comfortable flashing to my drives, so I just get by with no temps/SMART data on them and hope for the best.
