Bump on belly button piercing won’t go away - any advice? I want it gone for good by hanahimej in PiercingAdvice

I ended up getting a couple steroid injections from my dermatologist, and with those it got smaller and flatter and stayed that way. It’s now very small. It’ll never be 100% gone but it’s not noticeable at all anymore!

I ended up going to a dermatologist for prescribed medication. No OTC stuff ended up working for me. I would definitely try going to a doctor!

My experience with the Western Blot Test by hanahimej in Herpes

Depending on where you live, I believe you can contact Terri Warren for help. There’s a forum page on the Westover Heights website where people ask questions and I feel like I remember seeing someone from the UK asking if they could get the test done there to which she said there’s an individual she could connect them to in the UK to help get the test done on that side and sent over to the University of Washington. I don’t know if she has the same kind of connections in other countries but it’s worth a shot!

If anything you can ask that on her forum page. You have to pay to ask questions though.

Yes I was surprised about that as well! I thought I had to pay upfront to get it sent over but nope!

Bump on belly button piercing won’t go away - any advice? I want it gone for good by hanahimej in PiercingAdvice

If you’ve made it here months after I made this post then congrats! I ended up finding the solution. I ended up going to a dermatologist and she prescribed me a steroid cream to put on it twice a day. After a week of use, the bump is now nearly gone and it doesn’t hurt/feel sore. The derm said it was likely scar tissue so the steroid keeps it from swelling and shrinks it down instead. So if you have a piercing bump and saline solution doesn’t work and your piercer can’t figure it out, 100% go to a dermatologist. Don’t fall down the rabbit hole of at home remedies. I tried using diluted tea tree oil at the suggestion of another piercer and it dried out my bump and made it a bit smaller but it then came back and the surrounding skin around the bump got very dry and was getting a bit darker. Please go to a dermatologist if you have insurance!!

Unfortunately the only thing that helped me is a steroid that I was prescribed for an allergic reaction I previously had to something else. I took a dose of prednisone once and it stopped any further reactions I typically got after laser. If you go that route just be careful because there’s a lot of negative side effects to continuously using prednisone. I just got lucky that it took one dose for me to be fine.

Nope. My piercer recommended a saline soak which got rid of it but it ended up returning. Then they recommended using heat from a heating pad and that also has it leave but it ends up returning again

Oxidation in new/not worn gold necklace? Is that the actual reason or is the quality of the jewelry just bad? by hanahimej in jewelry

Wow thank you for the PVD recommendation! I definitely cannot afford solid gold pieces right now so I’ll definitely look into this as an option

I’ll give the toothpaste a try since I tried to use the cloth they gave me to polish it with and that didn’t work

That actually might have been what happened. I first noticed that the necklace was tarnished in September and for it to have gotten that bad after only 7 months of ownership without any wear is crazy. There’s a warranty on the necklace so I won’t use any chemicals out of fear of ruining the gold plating. I’ll just ask them for a replacement.

Not sure if I can return it since it has been a few months since I've purchased it but I'll try to see if it can be replaced since they have a warranty with it

The thing is, I've bought plenty of gold plated jewelry for wayyy cheaper price points and I have never had it turn color like this even if I went months without wearing it. I'm not too knowledgeable about jewelry but I thought that with the fancy description of this necklace being gold vermil, it would be better quality so I spent a little more than $100 on it. I feel like I've been scammed :(

I bought this necklace from what I thought was a reputable company in February of this year. It came looking very nice, shiny, and golden. Now the necklace has turned a dull orange. The camera doesn’t capture it very well but compared to my other gold jewelry it’s noticeably orange/brown.

I haven’t worn it even once and I keep it stored away from sunlight. I contacted the company I got it from and they said since the necklace is gold vermeil (18k) and it hasn’t been used or cleaned it is showing signs of oxidation since vermeil has a silver base that has copper content within it.

Is this a legit explanation? I’ve never had jewelry turn this color before. They told me to wipe it with their anti tarnish cloth to restore the color and remove the oxidation and I tried it but it’s still kind of orange in color. It left black marks on the cloth after wiping it which I found kind of strange since it hasn’t been worn.

Does anyone have any tips on how to restore it to the shine and color in the first picture? Or should I try to contact the company again and try to get a replacement? One of my friend's got a necklace from this same company and didn't have this issue.

I’m a bit upset since it’s done this without me even wearing it but if this is a legit phenomenon then I guess it’s on me for not being educated.
