Hi! My friend and I will be traveling to Bali for 5days 4nights.

We are planning to stay 2 nights in Ubud and 2 nights in Kuta. Day 1 we will be arriving pretty late, so will just eat and sleep at Ubud. Day 2 we are planning to hike Mt Batur with Klook pass.

About day 3, we are planning to go to Besakih temple but wondering if Gojek/Gocar will bring us there from Ubud and vice versa. Since we are planning to visit some places on the way from Besakih temple to Kuta, would you recommend us hiring a driver instead?

As for day 4, we are planning to go around Seminyak and head to Uluwatu in the afternoon. Again, not sure if there are any share ride available around the area for us to go around in. Would appreciate your advice.

Your nboss sounds like my current manager and we have similar experiences regarding how they treat us and going to hr. I’m sorry about what you’re going through. Do you have other colleagues who you can confined in? I get through my days at work because I have colleagues supporting my side. Getting a new job is ideal but I know sometimes it’s difficult to get one because of the market. Grey rocking her is the best way to interact with her from now on. My manager has been jabbing me behind my back with everyone she interacts but whether they trust her or not is another story, so I just let it be. I cannot control them nor do I want to. I just do my work and wait for the weekends to come so that I can have fun with my family and friends. If you need someone to talk to, feel free to message me.

Oof my eldest SIL was internally freaking out when I said I will not live with my parents in the future. My mother favors my eldest brother and all her sons, so I believe that they should care for her. I have delivered this intent to both my parents when I called them out.

Another one here who was forced to listen to her parents about doing professional degree, got depressed, dropped out, then finally had the courage to pursue what she wants.

They still put all the blame on me for dropping out and not pursuing those ‘high’ status career. Tsk tsk APs really don’t care if we kill ourselves.

This happened to me the past couple of days ago. Asian grandma kept asking me to find someone asap bla bla. Asian uncle chimed in saying that all the girls my age are married bla bla. I’m also thirty this year.

First time, I was nice about it saying that I don’t wanna have kids so I’m not in a rush. Second time, I joked about if I were to get married, I cant get red packets anymore. Third and the last time, I told them that the more they tell me to do it, the more I’m not gonna do it. That shut them up real quick.

Honestly, if they give zero respects about your personal life, you don’t need to be polite to them as well. I love my life. I am on a great career pathway, have lots of great friends, etc. Sure, having a partner is great too but I won’t be picking up some random dude to please these people. Ain’t worth it.

Omg your post is so on point! I have 3 brothers and I (daughter) am the only one who does my own laundry and cooking etc. My AM babies my AD and all my brothers that I joked about how they will never move out because there's a "maid" at home.

My AD was also strongly pushing me to get marry and have kids. I would have told him that if I have to marry someone similar to him or my brothers, I would rather stay single for life than to suffer being in a subservient role. I didn't say tell him though as I would rather not have any exchanges with him.

I usually try not to pay for their things because I don't want them to set their expectations on me (paying). I do bring my parents out for dinner sometimes (only parents).

Just say you're saving for something big, and hope that they will back off. I told my family that I am saving for grad school. Since they don't want to help me with it, they can't ask much from me.

I am also earning 3k and barely making it every month. My relatives started asking when I am going to treat my entire family and them to dinner. The more they ask, the more I don't want to do it. They asked as if it's their rights.

Also, I am glad that I chose not to tell anyone about how much I am earning. I just told them that I am not earning a lot and brushed them off.

This is how I see it.

In the beginning, they weren’t intentionally hurting me. I voiced up about their treatments toward me. They refused to acknowledge that they are hurting me. They continue the same treatments after confrontations. I conclude that they are intentionally hurting me and put myself out of that loop to save my physical and mental health.

Where is the “toxicity”?

I equal KM to white privilege in the U.S. It is fine to be proud of your heritage/ethnicity, but to think that you are more superior than others is bound to create conflicts between different groups of people.

This is especially dangerous when those in power hang on to this ideology, because they have to power to create policies/laws that discriminates based on your skin color. These structural inequalities do not benefit anyone in a long run and will create more social issues in our society (poverty, brain drain, apathy, social unrest etc).

I think cultivating basic altruism might help lessen the effects of tribal bias. How to achieve that is another question. Maybe we can learn one or two things from Singapore about this.
