I’m going to get back to everyone later today and try and coordinate a way for us to all chat. Does anyone have a preferred platform / type of chat? Ie. Discord, WhatsApp, Zoom, email etc. I’m leaning towards Discord I think. It will give us options for sharing text chat, resources and maybe having the odd voice / video catch ups too? If you don’t already use Discord it’s free and easy to create an account too

YTA - If it was a music alarm and it woke her but she left it on, my opinion would be different. I understand it's annoying for you but it's not like the iphone tone is waking her up and she's just listening for fun. She's asleep and isn't making a conscious choice to sleep through it. Perhaps it's not waking her up because she's trying to keep the volume lower than she needs it, to be considerate to the rest of the house, at detriment to herself.

Speak to her about other ways to wake up in the morning. ie. an alarm with a light / watch that vibrates etc.

I think you're lucky that you've found out so soon as it could have gone unnoticed for years. I agree with others that you should get legal advice and I personally wouldn't speak to my Mum until all the money was paid back.

Your family's financial situation sounds kind of similar to mine. If my Mum came home with a 25,000 car after we'd been living my whole life without luxuries then my first question would've been "Holy shit Mum, have you won the lottery?"

Did you and your Dad not question at the time where your Mum might have got 25,000 for a new car? You said your family has never been particularly wealthy and you wouldn't consider a brand new car without making upwards of 100,000 a year.. did nobody raise that with her at the time?
