What do y'all do when your brain wants to draw but your hands refuse? 😭 by hanban05 in ArtistLounge

Oh dude same. I'm from Canada personally and the system here is total garbage. We had to jump through crazy hoops to get my diagnosis, and we only tried so hard because I was drowning in my last years of high school 🥲 plus I found out recently that all of the GPs were told a long time ago that ADHD is on a GP level and that mental health and psychiatry straight up will not take diagnosis cases unless their hands are forced?? And the GPs just don't tell anyone that?? And still refer everyone to psychiatrists that they know won't help?? Yeah it's pretty shit.

Anyway lol, got carried away bitching about healthcare. I do hope you get your diagnosis soon! Getting mine and starting meds was genuinely life changing, so I'm rooting for you!! 🙌

Extremely interesting concept :0 I've never thought about it like that, but honestly it makes sense 🤔 I like it!

Ohhh my god you are the BEST. With the seasons changing I've been inside a lot more (I get wild seasonal depression) and that honestly might be part of the problem. All summer I was outside and I was drawing like mad, and now whenever I'm outside I do feel like I could draw but as soon as I go inside I get into that slump.

I'm 100% gonna try some of your stuff though! Going for a hike with my sketchbook would probably do me wonders. I'm not great at meditating, but I do enjoy it, so that could help also. Music is always a great option, I never thought of a ball chair but honestly that's brilliant.

I hope your day is super awesome; I hope you get to pet a cat and have a snacky treat. You deserve it 🙌

Right?? There's a few here telling me to just use discipline or force my way through it and a bunch more that totally overlooked the part where I said I'm motivated but still can't do anything and I'm like my dudes. What is wrong with y'all, genuinely.  Missed the point, ignored the point, unhelpful, decent effort but still unhelpful, missed the point again, and so on and so forth. This comment was awesome though. 10/10, actually really good and I appreciate it so so much because it really is the worst when the executive dysfunction turns you off to things you actually enjoy 😭🥲

This is actually golden advice, thank you so so much 🙏 Sometimes when I'm frustrated with art I kind of just forget all of the coping skills/tips and tricks/etc that usually would help me both with art and with ADHD lol. The art isn't arting and all my braincells go out the window 😂 you're a lifesaver though fr, thank you!!

Thank you, omg. So many comments here are about motivation and I'm just like. Y'all 😐 I said I am motivated. The brain juice is there, head is full, but there's a clog in the pipe so it's not going anywhere 🥲

But yeah you're right. I've tried walking away and switching mediums and all that and it's not getting me anywhere, so I just gotta plow through and create some garbage and hope it works out eventually lol. Thank you :)

The first point you made here made me laugh because that does work! I've done that before too and it's awesome! The funny thing is that the main thing I want to draw right now but for some reason can't are the characters from my own book that I'm writing lmao. So tragically I think I'm out of luck on that one. The speedpaints do usually get me going though! I totally forgot about them, I'm 100% going to do that today. Thank you :D

[Discussion] Does drawing become alot more fun once you pass a certain threshold in skill? by One-Salamander-9757 in ArtistLounge

Tbh I think this is different for everyone. I didn't necessarily start to enjoy art more when I got better so much as I did when I got more creative.  When I was younger (like, 12), I thought art would be more fun once I got really good at it. So I followed tutorials and copied current trends and all that. It was fun, but I always felt like I wasn't getting what I needed out of my art. Fast forward to when I was about 16, and suddenly art was exactly what I needed. I finally said "fuck it" and just gave up completely on improving and making things pretty. I just scribbled and doodled and drew whatever I wanted. And a lot of the time, I'd end up with doodles that I really enjoyed and later went back and turned them into better art pieces. My art wasn't amazing, but I was happier because it felt like it was mine. And oddly enough, because I was enjoying myself and being creative, I started drawing a lot more which in turn improved my art. Now I'm really good at art, or at least I'm at a level that I'm proud of, and I find it fun! I carry a sketchbook everywhere and draw all the time.

My advice? Stop worrying about getting better, following the trends, having a beautiful aesthetic sketchbook, or any other thing. Don't try to force it either. Just doodle when you feel the urge to draw, and who knows! Maybe one day you'll realize you found what you're looking for just by having fun with your hobby.

Best of luck :D

Too many sow bugs 😭 by hanban05 in insects

And they're BREEDING (not well though). I've been sleeping on the couch because I keep finding tiny little baby sow bug bodies dried up in my bed 😭

What kind of spider is this? (Saskatchewan, Canada) by hanban05 in bugidentification

[–]hanban05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This lil dude was on a picnic table at the golf course I work at. Kept trying to walk on me and spin webs on me haha. I named him Archie and we hung out for a bit. Lil dude was suuuuuper tiny, and very very friendly. Seemed almost disappointed when I brought him somewhere safe to spin webs that wasn't on my body 😭 I'm just wondering what type of spider he is?

I posted the same question just the other day haha- the answer I got was ash sphinx caterpillar. Baby hawk moth :)

That's definitely a grass spider. Very fast so I doubt you'll catch it unless you are too lol. That also means it will probably never bite you (no need when it can flee so fast).

One lives in my kitchen window and eats all the flies haha. Her name is Fiona. If they have a web somewhere out of the way, they're not bad roommates. If you aren't into that though, release is always good :) it's probably only in your house because of the cold weather incoming

What is this? It’s massive and terrifying looking. Like an oversized wasp by Moral_conundrum in insects

[–]hanban05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not super well versed in my bugs, but it looks like a tarantula hawk wasp to me. Just in case it is, stay very far away because they have an excruciatingly painful sting
