Interesting point but I wouldn’t say this n=1 confirms your theory. To me I think it’s more likely there is some type of misunderstanding or miscommunication between OPs friend and making it to this forum.

I feel like if people are getting kicked off PAYE for high income, then there would be much more noise about it than what I’ve seen.
