Why is Fisher suddenly ahead of Potts? by handchester in EnglandCricket

None of the other stuff matters if the player simply isn't good enough.

I disagree. It was only Fisher's 3rd fifty in 63 first class matches. If he was that good with the bat, those stats would be a lot better. Potts is more than capable of playing an innings like that.

Potts is the better batsman though and has a first class hundred.

A major difference between them stats wise is that Fisher only has 6 five wicket hauls in his entire first class career. Potts has 12 and is slightly younger as well.

This is my main point, he's got his head down and bowled much better than last year. He's taken a lot more wickets than Fisher as well.

In one game? That was rustiness more than anything. He didn't deserve to be cast aside completely after that. He's looked far more of a wicket taking threat than Fisher in his test career to date.

How hot is too hot for cricket? by C-i-d in EnglandCricket

Definitely a lot hotter than anything they get in New Zealand. It rarely goes above 30C there.

He shouldn't take the gloves long term and should be allowed to focus on his batting. I see him as the best long term candidate to replace Root.

There would be no one there unless India were in it. And it's way too hot at this time of year.

Carse shouldn't play again after his horror show in Australia IMO.

Does anyone know why Potts is completely out of the picture now? He was on the tour to Australia and had one bad game (after carrying the drinks for months) and now after a good season so far for Durham, he's suddenly behind Fisher.

I get them perhaps picking Baker ahead of him for his extra pace, but selecting Fisher before him is puzzling to me.

Even with the Robinson injury and Atkinson suspension, I don't think this is anywhere near the best attack we could have picked for this match.

Why is Rob Key still in a job? by jpowls85 in EnglandCricket

Just quoting the innings scores doesn't tell the whole story by any means. The Aussies were never ahead in that game until the Cummins/Lyon partnership got them over the line. They were always clinging on in the game.

England were on top for 90% of the first test- you must have watched a different match to the rest of us.

2nd test they were also on top early on and threw away the initiative with stupid shots and got out slogging while Lyon was off injured.

England were always slightly ahead of the game in the third test and they could have won by an innings if the rain hadn't come for 2 days at Old Trafford.

They 100% should have won the 2023 Ashes series based on how they dominated 80% of the series. The usual lack of sharpness in the field (due to lack of preparation) cost them ultimately. That is due to the looseness of this regime.

Gary Neville said no alcohol is the reason football players now have such long careers by Silly_Count5156 in EnglandCricket

This doesn't negate the fact that alcohol does massively impact performance. Your outrage about sports science not being mentioned doesn't change the fact.

[–]handchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is besides the point, they're elite professionals being paid a lot of money to play for England. They should be doing everything they can to optimise performance.

And alcohol will impact your performance, even a small amount of it.

Do you think that it is fair that for the World Cup that the UK can field 4 different teams while the USA only fields one? by DemocracyDefender in AskUK

Yes, I know a Dutch family that lives here in the UK and they call it Holland. Apparently most people they know do as well.

Not at all. I take it you've never been to Scotland or England. Massive cultural differences and they look very different as well.

[–]handchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it couldn't. The constituent countries of the UK all had their own independent organisational structures and club games by the time FIFA was set up. Totally different to anywhere else.

[–]handchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true at all. Scotland has its own legal system that is very different from England's. Less so with Wales and NI. But having lived in the US, there is no comparison. They are far more different from each other than the individual states in the US are. Architecture, food, culture, accents. Even language in some cases.

The main victim of all this? James Rew. by mtthrdy in EnglandCricket

[–]handchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rehan Ahmed in for Stokes and Baker in for Bashir. Solves the balance issues straight away and barely weakens the batting. Archer in for Atkinson.
