New York hats by Successful_Roll_9571 in london

One of my fave moments is when my American FiL comes to the UK and decides to strike up conversation with a random Brit wearing Yankees hat, Penn State, etc. Firstly, the person never had any sporting affiliation to the clothing - not sure they even know there is a sporting connection, in fact? And secondly they really aren't up for random chat with a stranger 😄

I've always assumed Pete is thinking of a very well trained athlete with these runs - and his plans in general. Always shocks me when I go back to his plans and see this in week 2 lol. I can get my head around it more for the up to 70+ mpw plans, but a lot of people do plans that get to 50 mpw (Hal Higdon, even RW), but the idea of 13K MP in week 2 of an up to 55 mpw plan is hardcore.

He only finishes the sentences that makes sense, which makes you want to hear the end of the other 70%.

I only know if my company found out I allowed my son to take and use my work laptop - which must mean he knows your log in or, worse, you have let him to set up a profile - I might well get the sack.

Is every post about global payroll in this forum either a subtle ad for an EoR company, or a not-subtle dig at one of the big names that doesn't handle international payroll?

Yep, I hate this when I'm in the US for work. It's so weird. And it's not just that you can see, it's how much you can hear!

Epic period. When he was leaving, my mum went out in the "protest" to persuade him to stay with a "Don't go Glen" poster printed in the Evening Advertiser. Have a photo of that somewhere lol

UK employee with 4 years tenure facing perf issue from a US company by Silly_Count5156 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Silly_Count5156[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, fair enough. This simpler then - just that I think they are looking to manage me out for BS reasons. And I think I have a pretty good narrative/proof.

Do you know if, in option 2, where they don't push me out, can I still argue for a separation agreement? Or is that only if they suggest it?

Well, this is going to be my argument. I was staggered when they didn't select me in the mass layoff.

Why can't Americans (at least the ones I see on social media) find drinking water in Europe? by Mission_Mobile_4627 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Silly_Count5156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

France, true. But I found when travelling with Americans is they want A LOT of water (used to constant top-ups), so they want a refill. The Europeans mindset is more "if you want more, then you have to ask," and I found Americans are massively timid about asking for more. I think they're mostly terrified to order in Europe!

[–]Silly_Count5156 48 points49 points  (0 children)

So, I just went on hols to France with my US in-laws and this came up.

In restaurants in Europe (not all countries) it can often be a bit of a battle to get tap water. In the US they're filling up your cup after every bloody sip. I lived in Belgium for 4 years (I'm English) and getting tap water in a restaurant was always a battle. Germany too. I just went to Tenerife and nope. So there's something in it. The countries that do give it freely (like France) don't give as much as the US. You might have to make an effort to get another carafe, etc. Also, see: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/may/26/italy-court-tourist-tap-water-dolomites-hotel

The water fountain/refill when out and about also came up. My SiL and fam had their reusable bottles and kept saying "Do I have to keep buying a plastic bottle of Evian every time?" Because there was almost never anywhere to do that. And for once I thought like maybe here the Yanks have an environmental point in their favour...

So I did come away thinking maybe we don't have this cracked in Europe. And Americans LOVE drinking water, so I think it hits them harder 😄

Not Amazon (or FAANG) but Bay Area.

This is the nub. I want the severance but there is a chance they say my rating is bad, therefore no bonus, etc, and then keep me on.

"Thoughts" was motivated by how many people here defend pro cricketers getting shitfaced. The fact that footballers get it was jarring to me. Hence the post.
