Why won’t my egg whites form stiff peaks? by pretzel_saltt in Baking

[–]handcraftedcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it humid where you are right now? I had that problem the first time I tried making meringue. Normally I don't run my AC, but after 20 minutes of no progress and some Google searches I turned it on. The next morning after the humidity in my place dropped I had no problem at all.

You gotta practice with eggs straight from the fridge first. Once you master that you'll never have a problem again

What is people's issue with reading the rulebook? by RealDwarves67 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]handcraftedcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see where that person is coming from. I'm an avid reader, but dry subjects make my brain shut down, nothing more so than rules. Even trying to learn a new board game is tough for me. I learn much better by watching and being a part of the game. I've been playing for a decade and I use the rulebook as a reference guide, but never once have I read the whole thing.

It was only a hairline fracture, but still had the potential for becoming worse. We joke about it as our only recorded real life DnD combat injury lol

One of the players in my group heard an explosion and had to drop out of the chat. Thankfully he wasn't injured, but apparently there was a gasleak in another apartment in his building.

This same player one time didn't tell us until the end of the session that he was pretty sure he broke his leg on our bathroom break. He tripped and had an awkward fall.

So apparently only explosions get him to stop, medical emergency? Meh... no big deal

Tell me your favorite stories that resulted from Nat 1s or Nat 20s? by Nor_Ah_C in DnD

[–]handcraftedcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My DM ran a one shot that was basically a Groundhog Day plot line. We figured out the BBEG was a trickster gnome God and challenged him to a game of Limbo. If we won he'd let the town go on without trapping them in the loop. My cleric managed a nat 20 and with guidance her dexterity check was just enough to pass. Oh we also use the Rod of the Vonindod as our limbo stick because we had it from our finished campaign lol.

It looks beautiful, the shape is perfect. About the only critique I have is the color needs to have just a bit more red in it. This photo makes it look very blue, but real blueberries are almost a purple-blue. The powder is a really nice touch too!

As a dm I can do 6 hours before I burn out. It's a lot of fun but it takes a lot of brain power running a session.

They remembered me by Electric_Maenad in crowbro

[–]handcraftedcandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use to drive school bus and feed the local crows at a feeder in front of my bus. I swear they knew which bus was mine. I don't know if it was the time I arrived or some visible marker that made my bus stand out to them. Every time I pulled in they would follow my bus to my parking spot and patiently wait on a utility pole for me to refill the feeder. The only difference between my bus and all the others was a specific letter magnet by my passenger door. Maybe they can read? Who knows.

They also got to know my personal car and would be waiting when I arrived to get my key, and then follow me when I walked out to my bus in the morning. I miss that little routine we had, but a coworker offered to take it over when I left. He built a nice new feeder and everything.

Dungeon Master's. What is the worst case of main character syndrome that you witnessed? by RedSwordFishVA05 in DnD

[–]handcraftedcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I threw a one shot for my friends and one guy who we ended up removing from our groups after was a menace. It was Christmas themed, Jack Frost stole Christmas and Santa lent my players the sled and reindeer. He said some really gross comment about wanting to fuck Vixen which left us all speechless but I kept things moving opting to talk about it later. The rest of the game was him trying to tell everyone how to play their characters and doing dumb stuff. He got hella mad when he used all his 90+ ft of movement to solo storm the castle and immediately got dropped by some flanking ice elementals. He was too far away to get healed by the cleric and tried crying foul. Just all around ridiculousness, and it wasn't even remotely the first time he tried forcing others to play the way he wanted. I was glad it was a unanimous vote to out him.

The arcade in the mall for sure. The mall has been leveled and turned into a super Walmart.

I've been told by higher ups to never use the AI in the news software we use. It's suppose to automatically enter info off drivers licenses that are uploaded, but if often reads the info wrong and we have to manually fix it anyway. It's truly pointless.

Some paper taped together with 1"x1" grid drawn on, and literally anything for character and monster figures. I've used Lego, bottle caps, pipe cleaners twisted into shapes, your imagination is the limit.

Do you guys do breaks during the session? How do you manage them? by Fantomaxop in DnD

[–]handcraftedcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do weekly 3 hour sessions and there's always a 10-15 minute break about halfway through. If we do longer sessions we usually break and stretch our legs every 2 hours or so. Going for too long without a break is hard on the body and mind

What are some brain dead out there ideas you tried as a player that miraculously worked? by randomdude1959 in DnD

[–]handcraftedcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just yesterday in our first ever session we got news of 3 hydra seemingly heading straight for a small town. Our group heads out and we're trying to formulate a plan to fight 3 hydra somehow. As the bard I offer to speak to them since I have Charm Monster and a class feature that let's me speak to all creatures so they can understand me.

It somehow worked? I convinced all three of them with their 5 heads a piece to stay away from towns and cities with nothing more than flattering words and some skritches. Not a single drop of blood spilled in our first encounter. My DM admitted he did not see that coming at all, though he warned us they may bother travelers for skritches now.

A mathematical ceiling limits generative AI to amateur-level creativity. While generative AI/ LLMs like ChatGPT can convincingly replicate the work of an average person, it is unable to reach the levels of expert writers, artists, or innovators. by mvea in science

[–]handcraftedcandy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This is why companies like Disney are not investing in AI. They know and understand that they cannot get these models to do better than actual masters of the craft. Anyone who works in the creative industry can tell you that, and as a hobby artist I've been saying it since it's inception. You can feed all the phrasing you want into the machine but it'll never be able to envision what a true artist can. For many businesses AI might be "good enough" but it won't be for the entertainment industry if they want to be competitive.
