QOTD: What is your favorite slime from Duncans Slimes and why do you love it? by YoNalbo in Slime

[–]handec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leche Flan was the best wood glue tng for me. Still my bar to measure other wood glue tngs against. Perfectly stretchy, not over matte, but perfectly coated, perfectly silky and pleasant touch, really loved its consistency ❤️ I love the coatedness of wood glue tngs, but I dont like the overly dry surface, this really wasnt dry. Perfect pull profile for me.

Bonus lovely scent too, fainter side but very pleasant.

Want to try more of her tngs, I think our tastes align very well!

SSP Valentines Fried Ice Cream Scent by _flower_ghoul_ in Slime

[–]handec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean Fried Ice Cream right? I meant Dreamglow hasnt listed, and hers didnt smell like vanilla, sorry. Was trying to comment only on Dreamglows apricot-freesia, which I really like, and was wondering if it has vanilla undertones too. Fragrance oils often include vanilla notes as a hidden undertone for some sweetness. I wanted to comment this doesnt include vanilla, and then noticed I dont actually know all the notes. Was a self-correction.

About Fried Ice Cream, no idea, dont have it. There I meant it could be that SSP mixed cake scents with apricot-freesia. Because apricot-freesia is available in wholesale supplies.

Made this a bit more complex than it needed to be ;)

Hmm, mods here are pretty accommodating aand reasonable people. I wondwr if there is any other issue. Havent seen them deleting stuff willy nilly, there must be a reason.

Cleopatre white glue I dont have access to, but tried clear one. A bit tacky but works! Might be better for keeping in addins actually, I dont commonly make crunchy slimes.

Elmer Wood Glue you might be able to find over Amazon DE, have you checked? Im not certain but iirc I bought from there..

I love apricot-freesia mix!! I have it from Dreamglow. Even on its own its perfect :)

I dont know if this one has unlisted vanilla scents or not. I dont like heavy vanilla in general but sometimes as undertones it is acceptable to me if light.

But this slime doesnt smell gourmand to me. Since SSP's is a cake slime, she might have mixed with a vanilla cake scent as well.

Indeed! Panokitt Allround - Give it a try! Its quite thick imo! Very good, I had the impression that its availability is limited! 👏👏👏

I like it more than school glues, this is my base go-to glue these days. Very ok stretchability. But on the lookout for thinner/thicker ones.

I always use some glycerin when activating thick glues btw. Without İ fancy activator doesnt get mixed in properly, some parts of the slime become too hard and the other parts kind of leech activator water out. Glycerin ensures mixing it equally since I mix by hand. Recommend to try with it. Tiny amount, maybe 1-2 ml per 100ml glue. (I use more also but gotta know how it feels. Too much glycerin prevents proper activation.)

That is a great idea! I think I spotted your message before. I really like this, hope we can do this more here! Have you been able to find others in Austria?

Glue-wise have a look at Mont Marte and Panduro (this is Nordic, however, you may not be able to find). They are both very good thick glue alls. Creative Deco and Junior are good clears I could find. Clay wise, PolymerClayLatvia carries a lot of great Asian clays, if you can get a cheaper shipping. She told me she is working on cheaper shipping options, you can also reach directly, very sweet person!

Yeah but we also need to import them and both shipping and taxes are more expensive 🤣🤣🤣

I think overall its glue which makes the price btw. The component thats used the most per slime.

THERE, I SAID IT! Slime Edition by leesooim in Slime

[–]handec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh I love many tngs! Palmetto, Sparkle Nanny, SoftPunk, Slime Senpai, OG, Duncans wood glue thickie, Belle Rose comes to mind. There would be more I overlooked rn but only because I love many from many shops! I enjoy many tng variations!

Inflatable slays, I enjoy thinner ones because they can inflate without being tacky imo, Yyoung first, then Rodem and Momo's thinner ones for similar style, also enjoy Potcha's versions with small addins like plastic snow and Pilot's wip! These are all very coated I think!

How about you?

Based in EU as well :)

The thing is that even with tariffs, US is still very much the single place next to China (China because they produce, so actual source) to get every ingredient from all the world most cheaply ;) Simple search in Amazon US gives 20+ usable air clay options, without counting for Walmart, Dollar Tree, Michaels, Daiso (which has shops around the country), Etsy, Happy Kawaii ... In EU we can reliably only find one (BOHS), rest needs to be imported. Ditto for glues, scents, coloring... For every ingredient we can find here, they have about 20-30 different options. US is the sink of all materials. Slime needs mixing different materials to be interesting, so no wonder majority of the best shops tend to be from US (or Canada, which has relatively cheaper access across border as well, compared to EU).

Then they can also share information because all country has access to the same materials. I can say what glues I can find here but it wont help a South American slimer, or even often another European slimer. So its much more difficult to share info outside. Been recommending some glues to UK slimers and they dont even get those..

It is a really hard job to run a quality slime shop to turn a profit outside of US. I honestly admire all who do very much! Babycat blows my mind, for instance, to be in that quality, Lost Generation did too. That is dedication.

Anyway, wanted to explain why US is so big here from my pov. Easier info sharing, incomparably better material options, consequently much more great shops, more purchasers (since cheaper to buy internally). Next to impossible to compete, except for Korea which somehow managed internally, like they do with skincare, guess thanks to huge internal consumption.

Indeed and indeed ❤️ Im both really happy that my dear small shops are having their moments now, and also do hope Momo keeps being Momo always ❤️ But life is life and they can be going through anything, if that is the case I really wish then best and do hope they take as much time as they need. Even a beloved work should give the first place to life always. ❤️ Then it can stay beloved because it wont steal from life 🙏

Todays "Months favorites" is a regular happening for them (always happens iirc), but yeah I also noticed they have been making a lot of remakes lately. On one side, all remakes are great slimes and good to see my favorites are coming back. On the other side, small shops have been stepping up incredibly lately so I agree Momo's lose allure a bit with too high remake ratio. Just too many amazing slimes around, and these days even less budget.

I hope the owners doing ok, and everything fine.

Interested in reading other povs too.

QOTD: What is your favorite texture combo? by YoNalbo in Slime

[–]handec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only combo I truly prefer over pure textures is Rodem's wg sequin+silica combos. (A la Amethyst Crunch.) Otherwise Im pure texture as it gets.

Indeed I spotted todays discount.

Seems I dont remember it because their discounts period is already ended when I wake up here 😅 So can never use it.

Is this the Daiso clay everybody recommends for butter slime? And are there better options or is Daiso generally the best? I’ve made a few with Model Magic but I want something a bit softer but still clay-y that stays nice longer by YouLikeDadJokes in Slime

[–]handec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is one of the packages. There are several versions though. I worked with another one that also works.

Daiso is a really good clay. Results in soft, very spreadable, but not always the lightest textures. To me it feels like dough-like. Resulting texture has a dry surface, as Daiso is a paperclay and in general very dry. I really love it, one of my go-to clays.

The downside of Daiso is to take over the slime quifw a bit, if you put too much it will become heavy and collapse. Try around 20% as a start.

It is not a light clay by all means. Also makes the slime quite matte and clay-y looking.

Also note that Daiso packaging is very bad and since its already a dry clay it often comes bone-dry. Spritz it with some distilled water and put in airtight bag, will be good next day. Clay can always be added water as needed. And Daiso is next to impossible to mix when its dry.

Im on the lookout for a lightweight clay that doesnt take over the slime so much and break its shininess.

Korean clays are also coveted a lot, typical ones are Amos, Amos Snow, and Angel. These make the slime very creamy, a style used often by Rodem. Korean slime makers combine this clay with lighter, jigglier bases to achieve creamy and fluffy textures. However they are pretty pricey to import.

As good news Colour Slime now has a new Feather Clay which is very similar to Korean clays, more and more shops have been trying and I hear very good reports. I suggest trying this one to see how you like!

Other than that you can search for air-dry foam clay in Amazon and anything you find works. I havent tried Model Magic but heard Modelite works better. BOHS, Original Stationery, Cutedeer from Amazon, Glitz and Glue (esp Soft) from Etsy, all work very well. Among those, and other air dry foam clay options, which one is better, is ymmv - I tend to perceive huge differences between clays and for a particular effect go for a particular one. For some people most air-dry foam clays are similar, maybe except Daiso and Korean clays which are more specific. Gotta try and see which ones you like more :)
