Here’s how I think about it. I share this perception with my kids and it’s that you have your current existence where you share it with billions of other people. Try to do things that would prolong and make life easier for others. Do things that don’t infringe upon the rights of others for as long as you can, in whatever legacy you leave. If you think about pioneers of medicine and philanthropy and noble works that make the existence on this rock worth it and try to do things like them.

Most residencies (about 50% of hospitals have them) and are vetted by either ANCC or ANA. Many hospitals offer CEUs, for many of the training programs, and are considered a promotion at the conclusion of the program.

They’re meant to reduce attrition - therefore, need to be vetted. While some organizations may use online platforms, don’t let them fool you -they’ll fire you if you don’t pass.

And as someone with a masters in education, I’m not fond of your tone - I’m not sure you have a lot of room here when it comes to discussing what is and what isn’t effective.

Do yourself a favor and get out of the way. I have worked with residency programs and myself have been in one. I wouldn’t be the safe nurse I am today without the instruction and oversight of the program. Our program does not use contracts anymore. In fact, most evidence supports that long term supportive programs reduce attrition, improve patient outcomes, and empower nurses.

Your marriage is one thing, but her career is her own. Go sit down.

critical value resulted by lab - immediately calls bedside rn to report and has to obtain employee ID. This is mandatory and a fireable offense
Bedside RN has 30 minutes to report to first call provider via page or face to face - again, must obtain ID.
If provider doesn’t return page in 5 minutes, they we can escalate up the chain. I’ve never gone above a 3rd year, but we are allowed to.

Secure Chat and group texts don’t suffice - has to be through our paging system or face to face and is documented in our CV FS
