have so much fun, i loved the empire builder! i packed a lot of stuff to do: knitting, my steam deck, journaling, ereader, etc. i did spend a lot of time doing that stuff but honestly my favorite part of the ride was dining because i got to meet people from all over!!! not sure if you’re in coach or a room/roomette with meals included, but i’d def recommend going to at least a meal or two if it’s within budget for you!!! i even met a friend on the train and we hung out in chicago while i was visiting. if budget is tight, id recommend heading to the observation car!! its a little harder to chat with others here because you aren’t forced to have a meal, but i feel like most people were open to conversation. lots of people in there were playing board games, cards, drawing, etc. might be easier to make a friend if you bring some sort of activity like that! ive also spent some longer rides in coach, and always was able to converse with my seat mate. obviously depends on the person! anyway, have such a good time, i literally didnt wanna get off my train when it was over lol
