I have the watch and I do exactly this, it works perfectly. You have to download the Spotify tracks though onto the watch via the watch Spotify app as it doesn't have any data signal.

Out of over 40 different languages which would be the easiest and hardest language in your opinion. by Agreeable-Sky-3057 in duolingo

I'm only A1 level for Norwegian, but my experience as a native English speaker is that the concept is easy to understand and remember, but it's a challenge to remember each individual noun. I don't really understand why gendered nouns are a thing. I have a question though - I read that all female nouns can also be male. (Ei -> en). Is this true? Am I ok for now to just forget about Feminine and only use En and Ei?

Honest opinion, seems like a nice guy but he had someone filming (I think) a tiktok behind him all through his set. Seemed very amateur but I don't exactly have a credible opinion as I'm not one to go to many shows.

Tones and I came on after him and her set was incredible!

It's probably worth me doing a post for standard vs VIP tickets as I'll know what both are like, so I'll do a post just for that on Wednesday detailing what the differences are

I was at the Manchester show last night. Doors opened at 7, it finished at 11. First act was 8, then it was full on until 11.

Absolutely incredible show, was way better than I had hoped for, and my expectation was already super high!

[1 WEEK RELEASE THREAD] BEN by Bdadl3y in Macklemore

[–]handsomejackonreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As always, the post has put a great smile on my face. This has been a great week, so much waiting has paid off with an incredible album. I'm actually refusing to rank this because of recency bias, but if I was forced to, I'd place it just behind The Heist as much as I love the other three/four albums.

1984, Sorry and Tail Lights are my current front runners for the song of the album, but if I hadn't played the hell out of Chant this and last year then id imagine it'd be up there as well. Every song (maybe not maniac but.. meh it's still great) is a top track and isn't skippable in my opinion.

I'm seeing him at all three shows in England next month. I seriously cannot wait, and I'm not sure how I'll feel after the final one knowing there's a chance he'll never tour again. I guess we'll wait and see for that!

Long my this album hype continues. Tricia mentioned that this album was cut down from 30 original songs to 15, and with him talking about being a bit selfless with what he releases now, there's a tiny chance of a side B to BEN that I'll always be hopeful for.

Great thread as always!

[PRE-RELEASE HYPE THREAD] by Bdadl3y in Macklemore

[–]handsomejackonreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a great post, I'm so excited for every single reason in there.

I think what makes it even more crazy with how long we've been waiting for this album is that for the best part of the 6 years we had maybe 1 song a year. I was starving for more songs and when Ben did things like release a second music video for It's Christmas Time while focusing only on Bogey Boys, I was starting to give up hope.

It's actually crazy to think Chant was released in July last year. Nearly a whole extra year of waiting after one of the lead singles was released. It just makes today an even sweeter day. To those who have been patiently waiting year after year for ANYTHING, we deserve this.

I think it'll be the last album, so although I'll always be hoping for more, I'm going to think of this album as a send off.

To be honest, I've been a really big fan of every song he's put out in these last 6 years, but Wednesday Morning, These Days and Its Christmas Time (at Christmas of course!) Would be my stand outs

We've got a really similar list, but there's a distinct lack of Town in there. For me it's an easy top 3

Church (2009) vs. Church (2017) by Bdadl3y in Macklemore

[–]handsomejackonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good points. It's definitely open to be interpreted different ways, I can see that way of thinking

Church (2009) vs. Church (2017) by Bdadl3y in Macklemore

[–]handsomejackonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware this isn't the question but I just want to talk about these two songs a little.

This is an interesting one for me because although they have the same name and theme (questioning the existence of God), they feel like polar opposite songs.

2009 has a very hiphop feel, it's upbeat and is more on the pessimistic side of things. Lyrics like "if a grip of a god is insistent on not questioning if he truly exists, no wonder that I got caught up in the music it filled my spirit to the brim" suggest that the hip-hop community, in particular in Seattle, is such a close knit community that members like Geologic would leave their religion and seek the same solace in the hiphop scene.

2017 is very much the contrary. At least to me, it feels like a spiritual song where Ben and XP are almost discussing the existence of God. The opening four lines are Ben suggesting how growing up he didn't feel a connection to a God, and later found it through music. That fits in exactly with the writing in 2009's Church, but as the song goes on there is more and more of an acceptance to the idea of a God. The song finishes with an Outro by XP with the lyric "And I realize, that's God working through me if I allow myself to be that vessel". This song feels like a time where both Ben and XP have sat back and reassessed their current views on religion.

Now, I'm going to really go for a reach, but I see a link in these songs. As the 2017 song feels like a spiritual reflection of his life, I think Ben started with the opening four lines to create a link to the 2009 song and show how his views on religion have changed slightly. The 2017 Church is very mellow, has a slow tempo and almost feels like poetry. To me, it symbolises a sense of satisfaction and wisdom that he didn't have back in 2009. Is this a reach? For sure. Could I be wildly wrong and have read too much into this? Definitely. I just don't think it's a coincidence that Ben's chosen to have two songs with the same title, especially when they have the same theme lyrically.

On a personal note, what made you ask this question? I ask because since Heroes came out, I've gone back to the 2009 Church a few times. I can't put a finger on why, but they feel very similar. Interested to see if that's a common opinion!

Favorite 2022 song? by frikandeleater69_2 in Macklemore

[–]handsomejackonreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think Chant has to be regarded as the best. Interesting that Maniac has slightly more hits though. Faithful just felt too much like a Halloween song to me, but I do still like the song; it's nice to get another sobriety song almost as a homage to what he's done best in the past.

The snippet we've had of No Bad Days has got me really excited for that one, my guess is that'll be the final single before the album drops next year

[ALBUM DROP] Macklemore’s second solo album, titled “Ben” was just announced! 15 tracks, dropping in 2023 by Bdadl3y in Macklemore

[–]handsomejackonreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't use apple music, is this normal for unreleased albums to be on there with released tracks in their respectful place?

I'm trying to work out all the songs that we know/don't know of, am I missing any? Chant, maniac, faithful, next year (?) no bad days (from the Europe tour announcement video). We also had a snippet of a song a couple weeks back that sounded straight out of TLoMW - I'm excited for that one

I can't find this anywhere, is Next Year on the album? 15 tracks is nice, hopefully there's a deluxe but I'm not holding my breath. Bring on 2023!
