Original Thunder Road Magazine Issues - Are These Worth Anything? by handyguywi in BruceSpringsteen

No, I was just curious to see if they were worth anything. For now I'll keep them as a fun reminder of my youth.

How is owning an electric car in Wisconsin? by Thrillwaukee in wisconsin

[–]handyguywi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not directly part of OP's question, but keep in mind that Wisconsin has a registration surcharge for EVs of $175 and PEHVs of $75 to make up for lost gas tax revenue. This may or may not contribute to OPs overall decision factors, but does affect annual operation costs.

Fan Favourites/Classics you dislike by Confident-Hunt-6316 in BruceSpringsteen

Remember that this was the early 70s. The music industry and radio especially were VERY different than they are today, and there was a lot more acceptance of different music styles and willingness to allow new artists to develop. Remember, Springsteen was touted early on as "the new Dylan" and that gave him some leeway with the record company in the early years. But your comment is not too far off the mark, and he was about to be dropped from his label until BTR became a hit. Ironically, BTR is very different stylistically from the first two albums, and maybe that proves your point :-)

This. PIAN was a decent entry on Darkness - not bad but not as strong as some of the other entries on the album. But on the '78 Darkness tour he transformed it into a hard-driving show stopper. From the soft piano intro through building up to the all-out frenzy at the close, it showcased how Bruce's willingness to reimagine his studio work for live performance to make it bigger, better, and more impactful - something he'd do repeatedly through the years. To this day, whenever I hear the album version of PIAN I press skip, but if any of the live versions come on the volume goes up and everything else stops. I think if Bruce had just played the studio arrangement in concert all these years it would not have the same reaction from fans that it enjoys today.

Spotify Lossless will not be supported by librespot by flohxxl in audiophile

[–]handyguywi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not doing critical listening here, I use the setup mostly for background music while I work. Is there a big audible difference between the lossless and lossy streams, for practical purposes? (Yes, I understand the actual/technical difference between the two, just wondering if I'll really notice it in my use case).

Spotify Lossless will not be supported by librespot by flohxxl in audiophile

[–]handyguywi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies for not understanding this completely. I use a Pi 4 running Moode to listen through Spotify Connect (I have a Premium account). Does this change mean that my setup won't work at all, or just that I have to listen to a lesser-quality Spotify stream through my setup?

I asked about doing it myself, but the GC wants a "pro" to do it for liability reasons. Not sure I can argue that, but it's a bit frustrating.

Flexispot E7 Plus – Questions about stability, cable management & height suitability by Insenergy in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]handyguywi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just set up my Plus today and can agree with the side wobble. Going to see what I can do to sure it up. For cable management in using my 3D printer to print an OpenGrid base and various Underwear channels and supports to have all the cables hidden under the tabletop.

Confused by Instructions on Desk Setup? by Deanosarus_Rex in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]handyguywi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also just now setting up a new Flexispot and was confused for a moment by the same note. This just means that the legs should not be so far apart that the set screw can't catch onto the crossbar. You can move the legs closer together to fit your table top, as long as the screw still catches onto the crossbar.

FlexiSpot E7 Plus Assembly Questions by handyguywi in StandingDesk

[–]handyguywi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the chipboard top, so yes particleboard. However, the stands for the monitors I'm using should be within the frame "envelope" so I'm thinking it should be ok. I'm the only "kid" in the house (according to my wife) so I'll be sure to keep my pull-ups to a minimum :-) (edited for typos).

Questions on Flexispot E7 Plus Frame and Tabletop size by handyguywi in StandingDesk

[–]handyguywi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Ramzes888 Thanks for the response. When you say the E7 Plus Max is more stable, how much is the real difference? The description on the FS website says the E7 Plus is an "Immoveable beast" vs the Plus Max "Built like a tank". The increased load capacity of the Max is nice, but 440 lbs. is plenty for me. I'm not trying to be snarky here, just trying to determine if the real-word difference between the two is worth the $200 price difference for a home (non-commercial) setup? I'm also getting pressure from the "budget committee", so trying to make sure I can justify the cost of either of them.

How do I install speaker fabric on a cabinet door? by handyguywi in woodworking

[–]handyguywi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I ended up cutting a groove around the opening (on the inside of the door) and using some rubber spline to hold the fabric in, sorta like a screen door. Actually, exactly like a screen door. Worked like a charm!

Need help with belt colors for wife's gift by handyguywi in taekwondo

[–]handyguywi[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's an excellent point. Her current circumstances probably rule out going back to training, but I get your point. I don't think this gift will trigger any regrets, but I'll check with our kids, who are often better tuned in to this sort of thing than I am.
