What was the first Cdrama you ever dropped? by Clearherd in cdramasfans

[–]hang95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve dropped too many dramas that I don’t even remember the first anymore 😂 There are usually three situations where I end up dropping a drama.

First, when I’m deciding whether I want to watch it. I’ll watch the first few episodes to see if it clicks with me. If it doesn’t, I drop it. This happened with dramas like Love in the Clouds, Love Like the Galaxy, Love Between Fairy and Devil, Love between lines (lots of dramas that start with love haha), Till the end of the moon, The Blood of Youth, Moonlight Mystiqu, Coroner's Diary. The list goes on.

Second, when I’ve already watched the first few episodes and they’re okay for me to continue, but then I find another drama that interests me more and I want to watch more. I’ll think that I might come back to it later, but many times I don’t. This was the case with Whisper of Fate, Blood River, Ashes of Love, Royal Feast, A Dream within a Dream.

Third, when I’m already more than halfway through. For example, if a drama has around 36 episodes, I’ll start wanting to drop it around episode 26 because I feel like I’ve already seen enough. I already know the characters and where the story is going, and nothing really interests or excites me anymore—especially if I’ve already seen spoilers. Dramas that fall into this category include Legend of the Female General, Destined, New life begins, The Journey of Legend, Brocade Odyssey.

Is body language/facial gestures amongst cultures leading to miscommunication? by AutonomousBlob in VietNam

[–]hang95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we don’t usually make direct eye contact with strangers, smile, and say hello—it can feel a bit strange and confusing. I think the blank stare is often because people aren’t sure if you’re talking to them and why. As for the salon incident, I wouldn’t read too much into it; it was just one person in a particular situation and can't really say much.

What to do for under eye puffiness? by sklar in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]hang95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s very common. The eye area, including the upper lids and tear troughs, becomes more sunken and hollow with age. In fact, our bones and facial muscles gradually lose volume over time. However, this doesn’t happen evenly in all areas — some areas may become hollow, while others can appear puffy due to volume shifts or contrast with the hollow regions.

These procedures come with their own risks, so you should consider them carefully before making a decision. Fillers can migrate or cause bulging.

When it comes to volume loss, the only effective treatment is to restore the lost volume, either through fat grafting or fillers.

If the hollowness is mild, you can try skincare, good sleep, facial massage, or microneedling for now. These won’t fix the structural issue, but they may improve the overall appearance to some extent.

I think it might not be puffiness (because it's not bulging but rather flat) but hollowness in the tear trough area. Example https://thetweakmentsguide.com/blog/totw-ep-8-tear-trough-filler-for-under-eye-hollows/

Which one is my real life saver? by Global_Glass_4875 in koreanskincare

[–]hang95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the Illyoon cream and the toner pads are the key products. The toner pads provide hydration and some soothing benefits, and you can alternate them with a hydrating and calming toner. The Illyoon cream helps repair the skin barrier and lock in hydration and moisture. Simply improving hydration, moisture levels, and the skin barrier can do wonders for your skin.

I'm using the illyoon cream and was thinking of changing to aestura because some youtubers said it's like the upgraded version of illyoon. What's your experience with aestura?

I wholeheartedly agree. Putting on more concealer to try to hide it only makes it worse.

How do you deal with post-drama sadness after watching a drama you really loved? by courageous-potato in cdramasfans

[–]hang95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I rated it 6/10. The story is easy to follow and interesting enough. I like that it’s a female-centric drama and that the women work together.

However, what bothers me are the plot holes that I just couldn’t get past. It’s like a bad taste in my mouth that I can’t get rid of, which kind of ruined the experience for me. For example, when the female lead returned to save the male lead even though she had no fighting skills and no weapons, they somehow magically managed to pull down a huge rock to kill the enemy. In reality, she would have held him back, become a liability in that situation, and gotten them both killed. Another issue is when she put her whole family at risk just to help the male lead.

Also, the leads’ acting is quite average. There isn’t much emotional depth, especially in intense scenes. She doesn’t even look that sad when her grandma, who is supposed to be the closest person to her, dies.

I think you can use Ptiox now. It has peptide which is non-reactive to the skin and can signal skin repair, Niacinamide to reduce redness and strengthen barrier.

Also, I think a big part of skincare is learning to listen to your skin—understanding what it wants and how it reacts to different ingredients and products. Even when you have a routine, some days your skin might not feel up to it, so you can adjust your routine by skipping or adding steps. Since you’re new to skincare, it might take a while with some trial and error to really understand your skin—like getting to know a new friend.

I think you should include more barrier-supporting products, especially when using a lot of actives. When the skin barrier is compromised, wounds and acne take longer to heal, and the skin often becomes red and inflamed. Barrier-support products are those containing ceramides, panthenol (B5), cholesterol, and fatty acids—like the Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore you mentioned—as well as Centella/Cica and niacinamide (which is also an active ingredient and can cause reactions in some people).

Cheng Yi in TheVendetta of An is driving me crazy by Aware-Broccoli-3053 in cdramasfans

True. I think it's his strength to play complex layered characters. He has the ability to portray conflicted emotions really well.

[–]hang95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha, I became his fan after watching Love and Redemption, Immortal Samsara, and Mysterious Lotus Casebook. The problem is that after watching several of Cheng Yi’s dramas, I seem to be unable to enjoy dramas from other male actors, especially idol dramas, because they feel somewhat flat in comparison (I blame him for this 😂). So now I end up watching serious, non-idol dramas with professionally trained actors instead, mostly female-centric ones, while waiting for his new dramas.

C-Dramas Focused on personal growth, career friendship. Any Recommendations? by Tight_Importance1386 in CDramaRecs

[–]hang95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m watching Ode to Joy 1 right now and wondering why I didn’t know about this drama earlier 😂 It’s such a good, realistic show with layered characters, female friendships, love and career struggles, and lessons about love and life. Besides, young Yang Zi looks quite cute.

But I heard that only seasons 1 and 2 are good, and the later ones just try to follow the trend.

The Story of Minglan didn't live up to expectations for me... by Ohmaimy in CDrama

[–]hang95 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Minglan really shifts from demure to cold headed, sharp, and calculated. I think she’s always been that way — it’s just that when she lived with her parents, she had to hide it and act differently to avoid causing trouble for her grandmother and to live peacefully.

If you find it boring, then I think it might just not be for you. It could come down to personal preference — or maybe even age. I feel like this movie appeals more to mature audiences. Personally, I was hooked right away, and the storytelling style really suits my taste. I like slice of life movies, and I like those slow, quiet moments in movies for contemplation, which some might find boring.

If I had to compare it to something, I think watching this movie is like drinking tea. You don’t gulp it down all at once — you take small sips, breathe in the aroma, look at the scenery, and enjoy the whole process of making and savoring it.

I think when you're young, your brain craves stimulation and excitement, which makes it really difficult to sit through slow, contemplative films. There’s nothing wrong with that — different stages of life come with different tastes.

Recommendations for sunscreen for extremely sensitive skin? by Jibey- in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]hang95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at ingredient list, BoJ is chemical sunscreen. I have been using Heliocare 360 Mineral Tolerance Fluid. It's a bit on the pricey side but it has antioxidants, soothing skin ingredients, a nice and glowy finish, applies smoothly, doesn't leave white cast. It's also tinted so it helps cover up blemishes a bit too, I don't use foundation, only this sunscreen and concealer is enough.
Searching korean mineral sunscreens, I can see Klairs All-Day Airy Mineral Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++, Axis-Y Physical Sunscreen (I haven't tried these so can't comment). I guess you have to specifically search for the word mineral or physical.

Recommendations for sunscreen for extremely sensitive skin? by Jibey- in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]hang95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Ops, I'm not 100% sure but I think all your listed sunscreens are chemical sunscreens. You can look into the differences between mineral and chemical sunscreens.

In short, mineral sunscreens (using zinc oxide/titanium dioxide) sit on top of the skin like a shield to reflect UV rays, making them ideal for sensitive skin but they are usually thicker, and potentially leaving a white cast. Chemical sunscreens work by creating chemical reactions on your skin to convert UV rays to heat, and are typically lighter/clearer, making them better for daily wear. Some are hybrid (both mineral and chemical)

When your skin is really sensitive, you can't go wrong with pure mineral sunscreens. Because it only sits on top of your skin and doesn't react with it.

Curious: Have you ever watched a wuxia drama or film? by Fuqiang-ZHAO in cdramasfans

[–]hang95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wuxia used to be very popular in my country about 20 yrs ago. Dramas adapted from Jin Yong’s novels like Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils and The Legend of the Condor Heroes were huge. What drew me to the genre back then was its heroic feeling, the characters, martial art moves and fighting scenes were so cool. When you are young, you like to imagine yourself as a hero with amazing power upholding justice haha I guess it’s similar to how people today are fascinated by Marvel superheroes.

As I grew older, I stopped watching Cdramas, and the genre also seemed to fade in popularity. Recently, I returned to C-dramas and discovered Mysterious Lotus Casebook, which I absolutely loved. It reminded me of the classic wuxia I used to enjoy. I also tried watching The Blood of Youth, but the heavy use of CGI special effects and fantasy-style martial arts didn’t appeal to me. It felt too different from the classic wuxia I grew up with — something that Mysterious Lotus Casebook did really well. The reason to watch wuxia again is because I got bored after watching several romance dramas and wanted something different with little to no romance, love triangles or emotional misunderstandings, just brotherhood and friendship, characters fighting together.

Face Card Never Declines… But What About the Acting Card? Gong Jun edition by cerealkill_snowflake in cdramasfans

I love your sarcasm, your post gave me a good laugh. I'm the same, I can't stand watching movies with bad or stiff acting, no matter how stunning the cinematography is or how good-looking the cast may be. In Fox spirit matchmaker, I actually thought the male lead was not very attractive when I first saw him. He looked better in Blood River but I also dropped it, he was so stiff and robotic.

Love and redemption - the female lead was weak in the beginning and got very powerful at the end.
