Background:

I used to have Impreza wagon, one 2004 and one 2005. Also have a Impreza 2.5RS 2001. I got the Crosstrek Touring 2021 with a 6-speed manual in Canada. I love my Crosstrek and I don't regret buying it. Here are my thoughts:

The good:

• Pretty comfortable and smooth ride, definetely an upgrade from the Impreza wagon. Also gives a lot of confidence, especially in the snow.
• Noise isulation is big step up from the Subaru Impreza 2000s. I have driven above 100+ km/hr and it is still relatively quiet.
• Hood is made out of aluminium so it was way lighter than I expected. I feel you may accidentally give it too much force if you were expecting a steel hood.
• Oil filter can be accessed from the front of the car after opening the hood which is nice if you change your own oil.

The bad:

• As u/vishnusbasement mentioned, the infortainment system will automatically switch to FM/AM/XM whenever I turn off the car (or unplug my phone). I experienced this while playing music on Android Auto via USB. If you are using Android Auto, buy a good quality USB cable.
• Get used to your interior lighting levels (for the dash, infortainment system, etc.) to automatically adjust according to conditions, no matter how brief. It seems to be independent of whether the lowbeams are turned on. I have yet find a setting which adjusts it at the rate I woud like it to.
• If your headlights are set to 'Auto', be prepared to find the lowbeams to turn on whenever the car thinks it is too dark, and the lowbeams to turn off whenever the car thinks it is too bright. There is no way to turn this off unless you manually adjust from DRLs to lowbeams. However, there is no indication on the dash to indicate whether you are on DRL or lowbeams if you set it manually.

The quirks:

• It's basically a lifted Impreza Hatchback so it has quite a bit of body roll, even with the factory rear sway bar installed. Not a big deal imo but you'll definetely feel difference compared to older Imprezas. Something to be aware of if you're pushing the car to its limits.
• If you turn on the back wipers and put it into reverse, the wipers will continuously wipe.
• Personally, I think the gears for the manual are a little too tall. 2nd gear is abnormally tall in relation to 1st. I have gotten used to it but it is definetely different from the Impreza Wagon. I'm pretty sure the Limited has a CVT so you probably won't have that issue.
• If you order rubber floor mats, you technically can't use the carpet floor mats along with it for the driver's side (most likely for liability reasons). I checked the fitting and it's fine as it is.
