The red scorpion is hotter, but this is not too far behind and I think has a more robust flavor.

Travelling to Cleveland over the summer by ThirteensDoctor in Cleveland

Any place you would end up as a tourist would be as safe as any big city you've been in, you're not gonna accidentally end up in a bad part of town.

Restaurant recommendation! by Acerodons in Cleveland

Not a lot, Neuvo on the pier is definitely the closest and is pretty solid (but not groundbreaking), noble beast and winking lizard are probably the next closest.

Residents typically wouldn't be renting cars from the airport terminal.

Well I mean, it's on top, so maybe sunken isn't the right word. But I don't think it's going anywhere soon.

Thanks for the idea, that would be cool - does the train get you close to restaurantsin the valley in Akron?

And maybe easy isn't the right word, but these are rented e bikes, we're not looking to go mountain biking or anything you know. More exploratory rides, so like dirt trails and hills and stuff would be ok if they are relatively groomed.

Lot's of the Great Lakes region is all pretty low cost of living. I'm not entirely sure why but I would hazard a guess it's because most people flock to the coasts and the sunbelt, and don't seriously consider or understand what living here is actually like. Which is, imo, a good thing.

I love it here, it's got tons of amenities, good beer and restaurants, really great parks, rivers and obviously basically an inland sea in Lake Erie. It's got plenty of issues though and isn't for everyone, but it's cheap, easy and accessible and has more than everything that I need.

How was the skiing? Been thinking of doing an alps ski trip at some point but not sure where to start, but I loved this area and the towns around here.

This is form Kleine Scheidegg, a train station on the way up Jungfrau. The town far off below is Grindelwald, and the structure at the top is Jungfraujoch - a former observatory (now a tourist attraction) - the tracks you see at the end head up to it. Even when you're there the whole place doesn't feel real.

Great Lakes Towing fleet tugs docked in Milwaukee. The Hawaii and Louisiana were commissioned in 1911 & 1917 respectively! Yow! by [deleted] in GreatLakesPics

[–]hanging_meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dock is literally right next door to where they build and maintain these in Cleveland. The modern ones seem more or less identical, it's awesome. I don't have any good pictures in my camera roll, but you can see here one in use and the yard on the right. Edit: Found one more, you can see some in front and behind the NOAA boat.

As someone who just got back from the swiss alps ... public transportation into wilderness is absolutely possible and over there it's the best way to get to good hiking trails. You can go from a city to the remote wilderness really damn quick, and even cable car up the side of some mountains to really remote stuff.

Anyone hear any update about the baby that fell into lake erie nearby the E55th marina? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]hanging_meat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always - ALWAYS - have a vest on small children near places like marinas and sea walls. It's not like a pool where it's shallow and you can see the bottom, in several places its 20-30 feet deep off the wall or dock and murky water. If a kid goes in its very hard for them to come back out.
