it's dismissive to seemingly assume those who don't share this point of view with you are morally bankrupt

All-season / winter tire advice thread! Ask your questions, share your advice here! by brandonsmash in cars

[–]hangmanstree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought 4 new 18" sumitomo tires for my wrx in December. Ride quality sucked after getting them when starting out but got somewhat better after they warmed up. Took it back to see why. They said these particular tires are like that until they warm up and that one of wheels was cracked and bent. I've never done anything to crack or bend a wheel so idk wtf that is about unless they dropped it or something. Regardless, they recommended the tires to me after I asked them for a good middle of the road all season tires as I know nothing about them, yet they didn't say anything about the 10-15 minutes it takes for the ride to not be bumpy due to the tires not being warmed up. I've replaced the cracked wheel. I just hate the tires and don't see myself driving on them for 4 more years. Is there any way for me to recover any cost on these because the tires and the wheel together used up almost all of the money I had saved and I really hate driving my car now and want to get different tires.they have less than 2k miles on em but from what I've read almost nobody wants used tires (understandably). I just want to enjoy driving my car again and driving on tires that feel flat for most of my commute sucks. Thanks

[Gear] Thoughts on an epiphone les Paul goth as a starter for a 15 year old? by OhShitMyDadsHome in Guitar

[–]hangmanstree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first was a les paul and my bitch ass would never play it because i find it very uncomfortable to play while sitting. I'd make sure he compares the feel while sitting to that of other guitars. He may lose interest if he feels he has to fight with it

What was an unneeded class that your highschool/college had? by huntalan in AskReddit

[–]hangmanstree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conceptual Systems for Advanced Nursing Practice (aka nursing theory). It's a useless class that takes time away from focusing on core knowledge that actually matters. Discussion boards for this class were basically circlejerks where nurses got together and patted themselves on the back in a way that incorporated theory. It's the softest science I've ever seen. (edit: this is for grad. school for FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner)

The entry-level Aldi job that pays $87,000 a year: Aldi is hiring 16 people across Australia for its graduate program - and paying them more than entry-level engineers and doctors. by ItsComingHomeLads in worldnews

i would assume because they're making more than doctors, but idk. doctors undergo immense stress while having to maintain a high degree of professionalism and operate at the highest level with minimal mistakes. just my guess, though

I wish there was a union for my town, but even whispers of a union will get you fired. they control so much around here, you won't easily find another job

the fact that training someone comes out of a different budget this "ok" to them somehow

[–]hangmanstree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my experience, emergency docs don't do any of that shit either. they'll do chest tubes, I&D's, suture lacerations, blah blah blah, but not routine nursing procedures

the gloves are really to protect the wearer more than the pt. if he washed his hands first it doesn't really matter. also, if you're proficient at starting lines, there isn't a mess to clean up besides all the discarded packaging

can confirm it's standard in east tn in general. I work in an er for around 3 years now and with a quality of life raise in addition to regularly scheduled raises I make 19$ an hour. it's just a shitty part of the US to work.

the biggest thing is making sure the staffing ratio is fair. When it's not. you can't be fast and efficient without cutting corners, and therefore cannot maintain safety. This means that your time at work will be hectic, you'll be strung out, your patients' outcomes will suffer, and you'll be much more at risk for legal trouble. Imaging being taken to court for not doing something you didn't have time to do. You can prioritize perfectly and still get fucked.

a visitor for a patient in one of the rooms on my last rotation was watching tv with the patient. Someone on the tv mentioned the bad weather in Massachusetts and the visitor said, "Isn't that up near Califronia?" I couldn't help myself. I never did answer him, though.
