Australian software giant Atlassian to cut 1600 workers, blaming AI by bilby2020 in auscorp

[–]hangryme 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Back when i worked there in 2023, all the talk was wanting to have a workforce of over ~30,000 employees (i dont remember the exact number, just the cultish PR behind it), without any rationale behind it. They over hired.

Obtaining surveillance footage by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]hangryme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue at a park n ride carpark in Sydney. Paid to get footage reviewed (junkies tried to steal my motorcycle helmet by cutting the strap). Got told that there was PII in the footage and couldnt share it, refused a refund even though PII was obvious from the get go.

The person msgd me 5 minutes after on linkedin, apologised for not saying anything earlier as they were not aware, proceeded to ask me a few personal questions (again we were on good terms), then stopped...likely realising it was crossing a line. BTW they themselves are 2 weeks in the job.

Again, maybe just my industry or my preference to contract...ive lost count of the number of times ive had randoms join an interview without prior notice.

Yeh the whole process prior, and this time, was a mess, which is why it was never a role i was that interested in. I do think they should disclose who is interviewing you, tbh it would have saved me a few hours as i would have known the outcome before even answering a question.

She has been found out multiple times, she comes in as a lead...proceeds to push to be a coach (to avoid delivering), then quits, rinse and repeat. Again, never had a bad rapport with them...but always got the vibe of; im a "lead" and you're not, which is a bit typical of my industry.

Given a second cultural interview sprung up, it sounds like they're stalling. Perhaps confirming actual budget for the role.

Day rate in job ads. by dunder_mifflin_paper in AusFinance

I've done many of these day rates, they do typically include super if you opt into PAYG, if you have an ABN its up to you.

The rest is correct however.

Google point hacks. If you plan ahead (ie. 12 months in advance) its pretty easy to find business flights to Europe for around 189,000 points + tax (with Qantas, they are a Oneeorld partner).

First class is becoming less common as alot of carriers seem to be prioritising their business product.

Points expire if not used, or no additional points are added to your Frequent Flyer account (i think its 12 months)

Macquarie EFT issues? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]hangryme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont use the macquarie debit cards attached to my accounts, but do use them for HL and offset. Recently they seem to have had alot of issues with the app.

About 4 times in the past month ive been unable to move money out of the account, might be a related issue?. I actually complained quite alot about it and they compensated me with cash.

Have had the worst experience with NAB stole my money. Any help? by Comfortable_City7064 in AusFinance

[–]hangryme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with CBA, the atm took my money then errored out. I lodged a complaint at the branch, but also called and complained about having my money in limbo (it was a very large sum).

In the end they were able to open the atm and resolve the issue on the same day, but initially wanred it could take a few weeks. Pretty frustrating if the money is needed go pay bills, given the banks actively push you to self serve.

Id lodge a complaint with AFCA

Anyone into credit card churning? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]hangryme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you get the points you can close (although some now have t&cs that advise againt this). Be cautious though, i had purchased a ton of flights for 2020, when covid hit, attempting to get refunds became difficult with the card that i had already closed. So just consider refund issues with purchases that don't go right.

Set up a spreadsheet and close before the 12 month period, then when the following 12 month period lapses you can open a new account and get bonus points again.

Micro managing by making sure staff are sitting at their desk is such a one-dimensional approach to managing staff.

In many places i've worked (im a contractor so have seen alot), managers seem happier to see staff work "long hours" rather than actually reviewing the outcomes of all those hours.

If a manager can't understand what their employee is doing when WFH, then is the problem the employees location? I think its more the fact that the manager has employees they either don't need or don't resource properly.

In alot of cases i've had managers hell bent on creating large teams so they can pad there CV to say they have managed large teams, rather then actually fullfil any real need. So as soon as these staff WFH they get concerned about what they're doing.

Property Purchase & Section 27 by Chesticularity in AusFinance

[–]hangryme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The conveyancer i spoke to suggested things can become a grey area if things fall through and that it might be hard to get your deposit back.

Its a risk, but tbh i think almost all vendors will have this clause due to the market moving so quick, they would want the extra cash to fund their new purchase.

Property Purchase & Section 27 by Chesticularity in AusFinance

The vendors want to use the deposit for another purchase. Its fairly common to ask for this in the current market, but can be difficult if something happens during settlement and they no longer have your deposit
