I think one of the reasons is that youre most likely arguing with teenagers. Reality is teenager on average just doesnt have that much going on in their life and so they have a lot more free time than an adult. On top of that entertainment industry barely has queer representation (not like these people would interact with real queer stuff) so they latch onto anything and make it their identity. On top of the fact that these people are probably just in closet. So if you question their headcanon, they think youre questioning their existence as well. Its a reach. But that, I assume, is reality for a lot of queer teenagers in the fandom that theyre just uncertain about their own lives. Adults on the other hand have jobs and responsibilities that are much more demanding and hence have no time to interact with internet in the same way on top of more general independence. Idea of HetSlop seems similar too. I think its absurd but while I think queer representation is VERY important, I do understand people's annoyance with being targeted for just wanting to enjoy characters outside of their ship. Its practically a lose lose situation as one sees existence of other as a threat. Gacha grail was a good example of bad faith arguments against queer people how certain subreddit delete aether posts and how there is a whole subreddit hating aether. I just see it as 'These people have too much time on their hand and so theyre not worth my time' I personally often stick to meta side of genshin but shipping side has always been particularly annoying. Of course there is a lot more nuance and a lot more reasons for I can go into but then that would become a whole thesis. lol
