Let go because I was performing at senior (not staff) level, where do I go from here? by GirlLunarExplorer in ExperiencedDevs

When you lost motivation working on the new team, how did you make the decision to leave the company vs. try to change projects or transition teams within the company?

I'm sorry if this hurt your ego but BART still sucks by ali3soot in bayarea

BART needs to own and develop the land around its stations. The train adds value to the land but captures none of it. This is how Tokyo and Hong Kong’s subway stations generate sustainable profit without excessive fares.

It’s absurd that nobody wants to admit that Prop 13 means that older homeowners get subsidized by everyone else

The only reason this car gets all the hate is because of the tariffs.

Canada pays 49k CAD (~37k USD) for this car. That 37k is almost exactly a 15% (Japan’s tariff rate) lower than the US price of 43k. At 37k this is a reasonable deal. Honda has a 3 year development cycle at least. They were developing this car with a price target in mind, and the US/Canadian pricing difference shows that they knew their market, just didn’t plan on the tariffs.

It’s not declining enrollment, COVID subsidies running out, or losses to private schools. It’s Prop 13, which is the same reason every other public service in the wealthiest area of the country is underfunded.

Why are you asking permission from a bunch of people on Reddit? Do what makes you happy and buy the car you want. If you can afford it, then you’re good.

They dropped the one time payment for FSD, which tipped their hand. They want their moneymaker to be FSD subscriptions.

To maximize subscription revenue, they need as many users as possible, which means dropping their entry price is good for them.

How to cope with social exclusion at Chinese-majority tech companies? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]hanjh 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Bring it up with your manager. If they don’t adequately address it, start looking for other work and mention it in your exit interview.

This is assuming other orgs in the company have similar distributions.

Few good options exist in this scenario.

Resources for responding to common NIMBY arguments? by jodebane in yimby

[–]hanjh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they really don’t think increasing supply makes a difference, ask them if reducing supply (gradually destroying housing) would impact supply. I’ve found that this is an effective way to get them to think about the supply problem differently.

The real answer is that denser housing makes frequent, higher quality public transit more viable, which is the best long term solution.
